Derrick Knight

Sunrise: February 2, 1973

Sunset: March 8, 2024

Derrick Knight 51, a beloved fiancé, father, son, brother, cousin and friend was tragically taken from us on March 8, 2024.

Derrick was born in the Bronx borough of New York City to the late Carnell and Vera Ann Knight.  After relocating to Portsmouth, Virginia during his early childhood, Derrick remained a life-long resident. Derrick was formally educated in the Portsmouth Public Schools System and was a graduate of Churchland High School.  Derrick also later earned an associate degree in building technology and most recently completed his CDL Training at Tidewater Community College in December of 2018.

Showcasing his resilience, determination and entrepreneurial spirit, Derrick has been driving trucks since he obtained his commercial driver’s license in 2018.  He was so excited about truck driving and would often speak about owning his own trucking authority and fleet.

Derrick had an infectious smile and an endearing personality to all that knew and loved him.  His loyalty was beyond measure as he was always willing to help in whatever way possible.  Derrick had an affinity for motorcycles and sports, especially the New York Giants. Derrick’s life was defined by his unwavering love for his family and his legacy of love will endure through the generations.

Our hearts are filled with sorrow and grief knowing that we can no longer feel his physical presence. Derrick was predeceased by his parents, maternal grandparents Phillip and Emma Mason; his paternal grandparents John and Tina Powell; and his bonus son Jamont Mitchell.

His memory will live on through his fiance’, Latesha Blount; his children, Keshona Raynor, Derrick Knight, Jr, Jasmin Faison, Daquan Knight, Cinquasha Deloatch, Derrica Knight, Taequan Knight, Kameren Knight; his bonus children, Mi’kail Robinson and Mason Blount; his grandchildren, Gnarle Herbert, Chase Knight, Iyla Faison, Zaire Faison, Madison Raynor and Maxwell Raynor; his siblings, Carnell Knight, Jr, Alfred Knight (Stacy), Christa Butler, Melissa Ann Barnes Parks (Antonio) and Deborah Tatum; his stepmom, Linda Holmes; his uncle, Moses Powell; his goddaughter, Tiara Faulcon; close friend/honorary brother, Calton Faulcon; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

Sending my deepest condolences to the family of the late Great Derrick Knight. My heart goes out to his wife, children, Grandchildren and extended family and friends. I’ve known Derrick (Big head Derrick) since we were teenagers living on High St. I can’t believe this tragedy happened but know this…”To be absent from the body is to be present with with Lord” Take comfort in knowing he’s resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father and one day you will see him again. I will continue to keep you and yours in prayer.
