Our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, Dereontay Marquel Collins kindly known as “Tay” of Portsmouth, Virginia. He was born April 15, 2000 to Cynlithia Gray and Cory Collins. Dereontay gained his wings to heaven on Monday, August 27, 2018. Dereontay was an upcoming Senior at Western Branch High School. He had a passion for shoes, sports and cooking. Dereontay owned over 20 pairs of Jordan’s and had over 30 pair of shoes in all, but Jordan’s were his
favorite. Watching and reading up on sports is what he did with majority of his time. He loved attending sporting events at Western Branch. His favorite sports teams were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Boston Celtics, New York Yankees, Kentucky Wildcats. Lastly, cooking and eating was a big part of Tay’s life. His dream was to become a chef one day.
He is survived by his mother, Cynlithia Gray and father, Cory Collins (Tabitha); brothers and sisters, Corey Gray, Diamond, Jacorion, Kennedi Collins; grandparents, Darlene Gray, Olivia Hinton, William Jones (Audrey) and K.O. Jones (Della); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; special aunt and uncle, Kim Williams and Juan Deloatch. He will always be remembered as a outspoken, kind and selfless individual. He touched many lives and now God has given him his wings so he can fly. His God gift loving spirit will truly be missed.

June 13, 2019 at 11:11 amI had no idea this young man passed. I taught him in 8th grade (English). He grabbed my heart that first day, and he remained my teddy bear. I am so sad to learn he is no longer with us. Rest, dear Dereontay Collins
