Demetriz Deshon Chatman, Sr, affectionately known as “Meatman”, 35, passed away in the early hours of July 30th, 2022 in Norfolk, VA. Demetriz was born January 17, 1987 at DePaul Hospital to Lawrence Edward Chatman, Sr and Elsie Elizabeth White who have gone before him to make room in Heaven.
The tenth of 13 children, Demetriz grew up surrounded by a very large family. However, any cousin or friend that spent a day in the Chatmanhousehold quickly became a sibling. Loved by many, Demetriz attended Lindenwood Elementary, Azalea Middle, Maury High School, and Chowan College. His work experience began at the age of 17 when he was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Kim at Spartan Market of Norfolk, VA. His most recent employer was Mr. Harvey Howlett of Heco Slings Corporation, Norfolk, VA where he was the Rigger Supervisor and remained for 16 years. Saddened by his untimely death, Demetriz was survived by his children Demetriz D. Chatman Jr. and Sincere Z. Chatman (Senneca Watkins), Karter E. Chatman (Tyeisha Lynch), and Maxwell L. Brewer (Marissa Brewer). Siblings Delores Washington, Ronald & Sherley White, LaTersa Chatman, Rashad Chatman, Shavon Chatman, LaTosiha Chatman, Lawrence Chatman Jr, Leroy Chatman, Marquiz Chatman, Irene Chatman, and Algerita Chatman. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Brothers in love Bobby Matthews, Larry Westbrook, Marcus Williams, Elijah Walston, William Melton, and predeceased by Dayon McClary.
Demetriz loved life and experiencing new things with his kids, nieces, and nephews. An avid Cowboys fan, Demetriz participated in recreation, Pop Warner, High School, and College Football. Enjoying time with his friends, oldie but goodies, karaoke, and line dancing were his favorite free time activities. Family meant everything to Demetriz and leaving a legacy was a lifetime goal of his.
