Reflections of Life

“…And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Delores ‘Dee’ Dancy was born October 9,1949, to the late Reverend, Dr. Lawrence and Willie Mae Smith in Norfolk, Virginia. She peacefully departed this life and entered eternal rest on November 8, 2021, in Virginia Beach, VA. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and went on to continue her education at Norfolk State University.

Delores spent her early years as a doting mother and wife while traveling abroad before she returned to Norfolk where she began her career of over forty years as an Executive Security Manager at Military Circle Mall.

She loved laughter and making others smile. You could always count on hearing her favorite songs playing in the background while she danced to her favorite songs. No one could retell a story like Delores. Many would hang around just to hear what she had to share. She had a smile that made you want to smile too.

Delores devoted her life to giving and gave generously. She was encouraging to those who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a person who enjoyed life but most of all, she loved her family.

She leaves to cherish her memories, three children: Kevin (Keasia) Smith, Trina (Eric) Johnson, and Sean (Linyearl) Banks; two brothers, Lawrence Smith Jr and Bernard (Janice) Smith; three sisters, Bernice (William) Spruill, Yvette (Richard) Copeland, and Regina (Stanley) Hilliard; ten grandchildren, Kamil Smith, K.T. Smith, Vincent Smith, Deonte Banks, Jaylyn Johnson, Eric Johnson, Kamden Johnson, Faith Johnson, Teaira Jackson, and Sean Banks Jr; four great grandchildren, Kelsie Smith, Dylan Scott, Kyrie Smith and Ocean Smith; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.

Sean, so sorry to hear of your mom passing. Delores was a very sweet lady. I loved the way you and her took care and brought her mom (Willie Mae Smith) to church every Sunday until her passing. Sean please keep your moms memories close to your heart always. May God give you the strength to get through this time of sorrow.

Ms. D will always be remembered by my family. We looked forward to our brief visits every Friday night at El Rodeo as she sat in her VIP booth. She was always positive and smiling as we shared greetings and current topics. Only the Lord knew it would be our last conversation Nov. 5. Each time as we departed ways she would blow me a kiss and say “Now be blessed.” Well, Ms. D, we are truly blessed to have known you. When we meet again, Keith and Denise Maples
