Delores H. Johnson

Delores “Lois” H. Johnson, 77 of Portsmouth, VA passed away on November 10, 2022, at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Lois was born in the Deep Creek Section of Chesapeake, Virginia to the late David E. & Louise Valentine Harris.

Delores joined Divine Baptist Church at an early age. Her mother remarried to Linster Humphrey and Delores joined Emmanuel A.M.E. and accepted the Lord as her personal savior. Delores was a member of the church Steward Board until her passing.

Delores attended Truxton Elementary and graduated from I. C. Norcom. If she could give a message “I graduated from the old Norcom where they taught us, and we learned something.”

Delores worked 34 years in the Portsmouth Public School System in the special education department. Delores was a dedicated worker at Mt Hermon Elementary and Woodrow Wilson High School known as Manor High School.

Delores was the widow of Ronald C. Johnson. She birthed 4 beautiful children, and she was a mother to many that she didn’t birth, and she loved them all. She is predeceased by her grandson Jeffrey “Bodine” Baysmore and her brothers Renard Humphrey, David Harris Jr. & Earl Johnson.

Left to cherish her beautiful memories her children Rhonda Harris (Samuel), Angela Lenoir (Nick), David Harris and Robin Parham (Antonio). 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 9 great- great grandchildren, one sister Regina Humphrey, one sister-in-law Jacqueline Harris, one daughter- in- law Nicole Harris, additional children Samuel Warren (Andrea), Carmelita Pope (Nate), Donald Newsome (Nicole), Laurice Parham (Vickie), Chris Johnson, and Vanessa Cannady, devoted cousin Huther Artis, devoted church sisters Edith Barfield and Delores Barnes. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Delores served God, she served her church, and she served her family and friends well. “His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.

    Yes Delores was a mother to all and she loved children. She was a true friend to my husband and she really was there for me when he passed. She will be truly missed. No riding pass and seeing her on the front porch waving at any and everyone who blew their horn. RIP and I will be praying for the family.
