Surrounded by a loving and devoted family, Debra Biggs Vaughan entered eternal rest on October 8, 2019, at her residence in Chesapeake, VA. Debra, born September 27,1947 in Norfolk, VA was born to the late Clara B. & Walter H. Biggs. She grew up in Norfolk, VA and was a 1965 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State University and Keys Business College receiving a degree in Business Education. Debra worked for Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company, AT&T, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon Communications for 29 Years. She retired in 1999.
She was a dedicated member of the United Order of Tents JR Giddings and Jollifee Union Southern District#l, Mamie E. Gordon #576 for over 30 years. Debra, a Civic minded person, joined the HRT Paratransit Commission Board. She was actively involved as a liaison and advocate who worked tirelessly to ensure equality in public transportation for handicap and senior citizens throughout the Tidewater area. She was predeceased in death by three sisters, Evelyn B. Thomas, Mamie R. Biggs, and Theresa Robertson.
Debra is survived by a loving and devoted Son, Shawn Vaughan and her Daughter-in-law, Teri Vaughan; two Grandchildren: Darius Vaughan “DJ”, and Breyana Powell; two Sisters, Patsy J. Hamilton (Dearmus), of San Diego,CA. and Bonnie Smithers (Donald) of Virginia Beach, VA and one Brother, Thurman Biggs of Norfolk, VA., a special friend “James Baker” and a host of other Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Thanks and appreciation to Dephine Harper and Ursla Matthews for tender care and companionship. Special recognition is given to her Sister-Cousin, Bennette W. Toliver and her Niece, Sheryl Scott who shared around the clock care for Debra along with her son, nephew and nieces. Debra also valued her long-life friends: Yvonne Blowe, Elaine
Fennell and her very dear friend, Gwen Johnson.
