David Clinton Jackson Jr. departed his earthly journey on January 6, 2025. He was born on February 28, 1941, to the late David Clinton Jackson, Sr., and Sarah Estelle Jackson in Perquimans, North Carolina. He attended Crestwood Elementary School and Crestwood High School. He met and later married the love of his life, Deborah Elliott, on August 25, 1962. To this union, were born four children, three boys and one girl. David worked for NRHA and then later moved to Norfolk Western Railroad now Norfolk Southern where he remained for over 30 years until retirement.
At an early age, he joined New Clark’s Temple with his family, under the leadership of Bishop Monroe Clark. He later joined Lee’s Temple in Chesapeake, where he became a deacon under Pastor George Lee. His wife Deborah Jackson later became the Pastor. He began singing as a young boy with his family. He sang in the church choir and then as a teenager, he began singing with the Junior Harmoneers out of Crestwood. He was an avid quartet singer. After marrying Deborah, he joined her father’s gospel group, The Israelites, where he was a “Top Tenor!” He was known in the Tidewater Quartet Arena for his high range, especially in the song “The Train.” His favorite quartet group was The Canton Spirituals. He loved any song they sang, but the two that he favored were “Singing In The Heavenly Choir and On My Way Home.”
David loved to come home from work and get in the middle of the floor and play with his grandchildren. David was also a Car Enthusiast. He enjoyed working on cars so much so that he acquired over twenty cars in his lifetime, two pickup trucks and three conversion vans in which he loved traveling the East Coast with his family. After a lengthy illness, he succumbed to the Master’s call early Monday morning, January 6, 2025. During his time of illness, two special neighbors unselfishly assisted him with his care. James Brown was there for him whenever he called. His next-door neighbor, Glen Perry was instrumental in assisting with taking him to and from his dialysis appointments.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Pastor Deborah E. Jackson, three sons, Deacon David lll (Deaconess Norma) of Suffolk, VA, Joseph (Margaret) of Portsmouth, VA, Kevin of Portsmouth, VA, one daughter, Dionne McNair (Troy) of Norfolk, VA; eight grandchildren, Nakita Jackson, Pastor Jenai D.
