Darren C. Hinton

Sunrise: November 4, 1971

Sunset: October 13, 2024

Absent from the body, present with the Lord. On Sunday, October 13, 2024, God called his beloved son, a father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, to transition into his glorified body and be joined with the heavenly host. While we, the family and friends, may grieve naturally for him, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at rest in the arms of the one who loved him most, Jesus.

Darren “Sleepy” Hinton was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was the second-born fraternal twin to Francine C. Hinton and James Shaw on November 4, 1971. He was raised by his maternal grandmother, and he grew up in the Camelot section of Chesapeake, Va. Darren “Sleepy” Hinton graduated from Deep Creek High School and worked for local landscaping companies.

Darren was affectionately known as “Sleepy” amongst his family, his peers, and hundreds in the community. This name became the name for all who knew and loved him. Everyone knew him for his affectionate wide smile, hearty laugh, and his magnetic personality.

He authentically loved his family and friends. Sleepy cherished the dinners and the laughter he shared with each of them. He had a special bond with his sister, Amy, who he affectionally called “baby sis.” He would often say, “BABY SIS, LET’S HAVE A PARTY AND INVITE ERRBODY.” He loved having genuine, heartfelt conversations, helping the elderly, and singing to babies. Laughter was simply who he was. Sleepy’s calling in life was to spread unconditional love joy, and to help others.

He loved music and singing. He was widely known for some of his most loving and self-authored melodious songs. One of his most catchy tunes permeated your heart with him singing this line, “oodles of noodles and doohdah, oodles noodles and grits,” after which he belted a hearty infectious laugh that would always uplift your spirits, accompanied by bottomless laughing.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Francine Hinton, and a praying grandmother, Ernestine Hinton Woodhouse.

He leaves to cherish his most fondest memories: his father, James Shaw(Theresa); two sons, Darrius and Darren Brown; six grandchildren, Marquis, Serenity, Syn’cere, Story, Secret, and Anesha Brown; three brothers, his beloved twin brother, Darrius  (Bubbas) Hinton, Mark Shaw, and John Woodhouse; four loving sisters, Amy “Baby Sis” Hinton, Jamia Shaw, Dana Shaw, and Kim Jones; three nephews, Jeremy,  Dontae, and Darrius C Hinton Jr; two nieces, Raven and Daeja Hinton; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
