Danny Keith Newsome

Sunrise: March 6, 1960

Sunset: December 14, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Danny Keith Newsome, born on March 6, 1960, to Delores Newsome (whom he cherished) and the late James Henry Newsome. On December 14, 2023, Danny departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and profound kindness.

On February 20, 2016, Danny married the love of his life, Adrian Newsome, in a private ceremony at the house that became their cherished home, performed by Minister Bernard Thomas. He was the proud and loving father of Monique Newsome and Danny Newsome; a caring brother to Yolanda Newsome, Janet White (husband Samuel), and James Newsome Jr. His role as a grandfather brought joy to the lives of eight grandchildren: Komasil Alegria, Akaydin Ortiz, Aaron and Joseph Herbert, Suniegh Scott, Kori Lawerence, Shamiyah Diggs, and Karter Alexander. Danny was also a beloved family member to numerous nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Danny’s love extended beyond his human family; he was a wonderful pet father to his cat Precious, who preceded him in death and is patiently waiting for him in heaven.

Educated in the Portsmouth Public School System, Danny served in the Army from 1978 to 1985, demonstrating his dedication to his country. Professionally, he excelled as a butcher and Union Representative at the Hampton Roads Area commissary, advocating tirelessly for the rights of his colleagues.

Danny was one of a kind, known for his excellent cooking and a funny, yet absolutely real sense of humor. His voice was strong and bold, mirroring the way he lived his life—a life marked by authenticity and sincerity. Danny had a unique ability to cut through nonsense, expressing his thoughts with a realness that couldn’t be denied. As a friend, his loyalty was unwavering, and those fortunate enough to be considered his friend knew he was always there for them.

A gentle, kind, and thoughtful man, Danny found joy in cooking and surrounded himself with those who loved him. His Salmon, prepared with heavenly precision, reflected his passion for the culinary arts. Even now, we can imagine him in heaven preparing a full course meal for his father and loved ones who preceded him.

Danny’s calming presence helped many navigate life’s challenges, and his voice was a soothing embrace during difficult times. A vigilant fighter for other veterans, he assisted many in gaining the ratings they thought unattainable, asking for nothing in return but simply loving to help others become whole.

An avid fisherman and gardener, Danny found solace in the outdoors. His love for driving his cherished Mercedes and sailing his boat, the Adrian 1, was matched only by his passion for gadgets and making others laugh, especially his beloved Adrian.

As we say our goodbyes to Danny, we find comfort in the knowledge that he leaves behind a legacy of love and joy. In this time of grief, let us reflect on Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” May God grant each of you healing and peace that surpasses all understanding.
