With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well-lived, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Cynthia Lundy Jones, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Born on March 11, 1948, in Norfolk, Virginia, Cynthia was the cherished daughter of the late William and Ethel Lundy. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1966, she remained actively involved with her alumni committee throughout the years. She continued her education at Norfolk State University, where she cultivated her love of learning and service.
Cynthia had a deep and abiding faith in Christ. She was a devoted member of The Source Christian Center in Virginia Beach, VA, and previously served in the Women’s Department at Way of the Cross in Norfolk, VA. Her faith guided her steps and shaped her servant’s heart.
She answered God’s call to serve others in many capacities. From 1991 to 2014, she opened her heart and home as a foster parent with organizations such as the James Barry Robinson Center and Community Solutions. Professionally, she worked as a Developmental Technician at Southeastern Virginia Training Center, a Facilitator at Compassionate Care Consumer Services, and a Teacher’s Aide at Norview High School. Her greatest calling, however, was as a caregiver, offering compassion, kindness, and dignity to those in need.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 40 years, Henry Jones, Jr.; her parents; her sisters, Norma “Ann” Skyles and Jacqueline “Jackie” Granger; and her brothers, Walter Lundy and Stanley Lundy.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family. Her memory will be forever cherished by her children: Nicole McDowell of Norfolk, VA; Brandy Velazquez (Edwin) of Newport News, VA; Bernadette Reed (Milton) of Suffolk, VA; Robin Rawles of Portsmouth, VA; Henry “Skip” Jones II (Yolanda) of Portsmouth, VA; Kevin Jones of Franklin, VA; Jeffrey Jones (Mimi) of Texas; and Bryant Jones of Newport News, VA.
She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her beloved sisters Laverne Hines and Betty Smithwick of Norfolk, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Though she has departed this earthly life, we rejoice in knowing that Cynthia now rests in the presence of her Savior, where there is no more pain, only peace and everlasting joy.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:21

July 8, 2025 at 1:07 pmIt is with heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Sister Cynthia that I send this note of comfort. I particularly remember Sister Cynthia and her sister, Mother Laverne Hines being there for me in 1998 when my older brother transitioned home to heaven. I remember the many shared laughs and great conversations. Sister Cynthia will surely be missed. She has gone from labor to rest with our Lord and Savior! Be comforted by your endless memories of her and how she graced your life!
