Cynthia Barnwell

Sunrise: December 22, 1957

Sunset: January 11, 2023

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, our beloved Cynthia Barnwell was called home by our heavenly Father to rest in eternal peace. Cynthia was born in Manhattan, NY to the late Maxie Maceo Barnwell and Thelma L Corprew Barnwell.

Cynthia devoted her life to giving back and helping others, it was her calling!! After moving to Virginia, Cynthia worked at the Shelter for the homeless and demonstrated just how genuine her heart of gold was by helping hundreds of families better themselves. She also worked at St. Mary’s Academy as preschool teacher for 12 years until schools closing, where she also volunteered at the Hunton YMCA as a team mom, cheerleading coach, hosting teen dances every weekend, or just making those famous chicken biscuits that every player in rec league had the opportunity to taste lol!!!! Cynthia also worked at Fidura for 13 years helping to aid with special needs adults, she also cared for the late Mr Hopkins or Hop as she called him. Cynthia left Fidura and went to JPI Inc where she continued to care for special needs adults until she became ill. Cynthia built special bonds with her individuals but there was an undeniable bond between her and Jamar Andrews. Everywhere she went Jamar wasn’t far behind lol Jamar even went to all the family functions!!!! But that’s just who Cynthia was, the most caring, funniest giving person you could ever meet. Amazing mother or honorary mother, guidance counselor, travel partner, problem solver or whatever she needed to be to get you to where you needed to be in life. Indeed, Cynthia loved and cared for many with an enormous heart and selfless mindset, and everyone loved her in return for it!! Cynthia also loved to travel. She felt the world needed to see all her glory, so her and her Travel Gang made it their business to travel all throughout the year. Whether to Bahamas or or Norva Scotia, cruises to Belize or Cayman Islands or their yearly travel to Essence Festival, Cynthia made sure to leave her presence everywhere she went!!
Cynthia will be cherished forever by many for the undeniable impact and imprints she left in our hearts. Her beautiful generous spirit, infectious contagious personality and smile and genuine love for life touched and inspired all who knew her. Cynthia left to continue to love and cherish her life children Darnell M Barnwell, Essence P Barnwell, Dorsett Barnwell, Lundon Tripp and Sierra Bishop her grandchildren Michael Tripp Octavion H Payne-Barnwell, Amari Smith, Maceo K Barnwell,  Dorsett D Barnwell Jr, and Jayontae Worrell-Riddick, and Imani Bright,  her nephew Omar Hysmith (Ann Hysmith), her niece Laquan Precious Corprew Tamara Faulk-Odom (Savoy Odom), great nieces Savora Odom and Skylar Grace Odom, her best friends and cousins, Linda (Pisa) Corprew and Deborah (Debra) Corprew; a host of dearly loved cousins and family and friends and truly will be missed. Cynthia was predeceased by her brothers Ronald Barnwell and Donald Barnwell, and her sister Yvonne Faulk.
We all have been blessed to have the opportunity to grace the presence of this rare jewel and ther trademark beauty, sense of humor and vibrant bubbly presence. Cynthia is forever in our hearts and eternally in our thoughts!!

Sending condolences to the Family. When I first met Ms. C as she was affectionally called @ JPI. I knew that she was a woman that knew her worth, and didn’t mind submitted as long as you understood what it meant and it went both ways, She had your back as long as you had hers. She walked in her femininity and took care of herself but don’t think she wouldn’t check you. She was beautiful and loving and full of ambitions and walked with confidence and expected you to be everything God asked you to be and would hold you accountable for your actions. I want to personally thank you for each and every time that you extended your grace with helping out at GW even if it was a last minute call, you would always work it out. You were appreciated for your caring generosity and care that you gave to all the individuals. You are the epitome of a Good Woman. SIP knowing that you were loved and adored and impacted lives that will forever carry your legacy.
    Rest Enterally:
