On the morning of June 22, 2024, by divine providence, Cynthia Ann Pittman, 79, affectionately known to all as “Granny,” peacefully passed away. Cynthia was born on January 18, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Mr. Watson and Bethola Robinson.
Cynthia graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia, where she met her husband, Milton Pittman. They were blessed with two children, Lisa Watkins and Milton Pittman Jr. The two were married for 14 years before Milton’s passing on June 22, 1978.
In 1986, Cynthia earned her associate’s degree in nursing from Norfolk State University. She then worked at Norfolk Community Hospital, Norfolk Health Care, Restorative Nursing & Rehab, and finally, her favorite place of all, Atlantic Shores, where she retired.
Granny, as she was lovingly called, enjoyed cooking, sewing, and drawing. She was a devoted caretaker to all who knew her. Her smile illuminated every room, and she warmly embraced everyone with a big hug. No task was too small or too large for her family. She loved God and cherished being a part of her church community. Her natural and spiritual families were her life. To her, friends were always considered family.
Cynthia is survived by her sister, Brenda “Joyce” Harris of Virginia Beach, VA; her daughter, Lisa Watkins (Wayne Watkins) of Smithfield, VA; her son, Milton Pittman of Norfolk, VA; her granddaughters, LaToya Williams (Anthony Williams) of Richmond, VA, Charlisa Allmond (Sparkle Allmond) of Portsmouth, VA, Aston Watkins of Smithfield, VA, Naomi Watkins of Lynchburg, VA, Rachel Watkins, and Jordan Watkins of Smithfield, VA; and a great-grandson, Justice Williams of Richmond, VA, and a host of many nieces and nephews. Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Milton, and her sisters, Shirley Minor, Yvonne Bowman, and Phyllis Minor.
