Curtis “CJ” Person was born November 3, 1964 to Bernice Grant of Murfreesboro, NC and to the late Curtis Grant of Southampton County, VA. CJ attended school in Southampton County and graduated in 1985 where he played and loved the sports of basketball and baseball.
CJ married Linda Person and through their union they had 2 children. At an early age, CJ attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Boykins, VA. He loved a good joke with his peers, and a good laugh with his grandchildren. He was a good husband, and a kind person to all his neighbors and friends. CJ was also a die-hard Washington Commanders/Redskins fan.
CJ worked for Gwaltney of Smithfield for numerous years, Fluor Daniels, Inc., and Austin Inc. (International Paper) until an accident on the job.
CJ was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. CJ leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 28 years, Linda Person; 2 children, Quonte Newsome of Franklin, VA, and Stacey Newsome (Reese) of Katy, TX; 2 grandchildren, Amaya Newsome and Stassi Lucas; mother, Bernice Grant; 2 sisters, Mary Person and Melissa Grant; 1 brother, Glenn Person (Kendra) of Nuremburg, Germany; 2 aunts, Mae Cavion Flythe and Georgia Barnes; 4 uncles, Joseph Lundy (Mildred), Duke Grant, Glenn Grant, and Johnny White; 4 sisters-in-law, Regina James, Katrina Newsome, Rose Newsome and Cassandra Newsome; 1 brother-in-law, Wesley Newsome, Jr.; devoted niece, Trishona Newsome and goddaughter, Eboni Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
No words can express our loss. CJ, you will be truly missed.
