Cornelious Lamon Hawkins

Sunrise: July 11, 1979

Sunset: September 9, 2024

Cornelious L Hawkins “Corn” was born to Belinda Hawkins and Cornelious Johnson Jr. on July 11, 1979, in Norfolk, VA, and passed away on September 9, 2024, at the age of 45.

Cornelious attended Norfolk Public School, where he graduated from Lake Taylor High School in 1998. Corn was an active band member playing the baritone. Corn also attended VoTech, participating in the welding program, and later joined the Newport News Apprentice School. Cornelious would later meet his wife Teonna in 2001 and welcomed a son, Syncere “Diddy Bop” Hawkins, in 2005 and got married on August 19, 2006. After completing the Apprenticeship, Cornelious knew he couldn’t and did not want to stop there. He enrolled himself in Thomas Nelson Community College and graduated in 2009. Even though he was a natural-born leader, Cornelious worked hard to become a leader. Through his hard work, he was promoted to welding supervisor on the 3rd shift, where he was employed at Huntington Ingalls (Newport News Shipyard). Cornelious had a heart of gold he wanted and did have a positive impact on those whom he encountered, and that was the birth of Coach Corn. He decided he wanted to coach kids in the community, so he coached football and basketball for the Berkley Cougars and Timberwolves, later forming his own, known as the Berkley Bulls.

Cornelious was LOVED and HIGHLY respected in the community because of his work and dedication. After coaching, he thought to himself that he wanted to pick up another hobby from their THE LAB, and G-ISH was born, and the rest is history. He served everyone from the West to the East Coast, making a bigger name for himself, and for that, THE LAB and G-ISH will continue through his legacy.

Cornelious leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Teonna Hawkins, a son, Syncere Hawkins, Stepson Xavier Litte Sr. Mother, Belinda Hawkins, Father Cornelious Johnson Jr.; Brother Donnell Hawkins (Gertha) Sister Asyah Hale, Neice Tre’kia Bervard and Talanda Clevland. Special Neice D’Lorah Hale, Nephew Justin Lawrence, and Michael Phifer Jr., Great-niece and nephew Kaden and Kari Brevard. Mother-in-law Debra Williams and two grandchildren, Xavier Little Jr. and Jordyn Little.

He is predeceased by his grandparents, Elizabeth and James Hawkins Sr., Marion and Cornelious Johnson Sr., Uncle Gary Hawkins, and Aunt Mildred Crique. Nephew Cornelius Jones. He also leaves behind a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

We do not know the plans God has for us, nor would we understand why we go through the things we do. I guess Cornelious served his purpose and completed the Lord’s work. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, and for that, I am grateful to you. I will continue to keep our son on the journey you started. My husband, best friend, and right hand will truly be missed I love you more than words can say, Your wife, Teonna.

Dad, A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, Syncere.

I worked around “Hawk” for over 15 years. He was a natural leader who always took care of his people. If you ever worked around him, you knew that without a shadow of a doubt, he lived his life for his son , his “Bop”. Everything he did, every decision he made, every sacrifice he made was done with his son in mind. I had many laughs over the years with Hawk, and will miss him dearly. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.
