Cora Demby Ricks departed this life on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 in Hampton, Va. Cora was born on March 28, 1957 in Chesapeake, Virginia to the late Jette William Demby, Sr. and Barbara Demby.

After graduating from Deep Creek High School in 1974, she attended Norfolk State University and ECPI University. Cora married her soulmate Roscoe Ricks, Jr. and the two resided in Suffolk, Virginia. Latisha was born from their love of thirty-four years. Cora was devoted and passionately served the Navy Exchange. After over twenty years of dedicated service, she retired this year in October. Cora was filled with unimaginable strength and wisdom. She had a fond love for working on puzzles. Her greatest joy was spending time with her granddaughters who affectionately called her “Coco”.

Cora is predeceased by her husband, Roscoe Ricks, Jr., her father, Jette W. Demby, Sr. and her brother, Jette Demby, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her daughter, Latisha Ricks-Guity; son-in-law, Rene’ Guity; two granddaughters, Skai Guity and Starr Guity, all of Davenport, Florida; mother, Barbara Demby of Chesapeake, VA; brothers, Kelvin Demby (Valerie), Chesapeake, VA; Cedric Warren (Cathy) Virginia Beach, VA; Robert Demby (Jacqulynn) Chesapeake, VA; sisters, Jetta Hunt, Postmouth, VA; Rita Bowen, Norfolk, VA; Tracy Hendrix (Norris), Conover, NC; Dr. Marie Shepherd (Dewitt) Portsmouth, VA; Dr. Chrystal Barco-Southall (Gilbert) Hampton, VA, special friend Georgianna Boone of Suffolk, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

    I had the pleasure of working with Cora at NEXCOM for the past 15 years. Cora was a very hard worker, dedicated and always willing to help. She had a soft spoken way about her and she always remained positive no matter what was going on.

    Cora’s absence will be felt within our team and NEXCOM.

    Condolences to the family. As one of Cora’s coworkers, she was always willing to listen and help out in any anyway she was able. She was sweet women with a lot of patience. So sorry for your loss.
