“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.” Psalm 121:1 KJV
Early in the morning on Thursday, October 17, 2024, our beloved Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend, Constance Elizabeth Powell, peacefully entered into eternal rest. She was kind, compassionate, loving, and loved her family. To her family, she was an Angel.
Constance was born in Portsmouth, VA, on November 7, 1925, to the late Julia Ann Smith and Earl Hobbs. She was a proud 1944 graduate of I.C. Norcom High School, Portsmouth, VA. Upon graduation, she attended Norfolk State College, now Norfolk State University. She enjoyed helping and serving others, epitomized by her employment history at Norfolk General Hospital and Autumn Care Nursing Center.
At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and joined Mount Hermon Temple, Portsmouth, VA. She later moved her fellowship to Celestial Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member until her passing. She served as a member of the Willing Workers Club and was a regular attendee of Sunday School. Constance loved attending church and fellowship with her church family. She was a committed and faithful child of God. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. It was a joy to hear her singing to the Lord her favorite song, “Oh, Lord, I Want You to Help Me.’’
Constance was predeceased by her parents, Julia Ann Smith and Earl Hobbs, and two sons, Kenneth L. and Dwight W. Powell.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved son, Paul Boone (Celease); beloved daughter, Arona J. Powell; grandchildren Tracy Boone, Diane Boyd (Daniel), and Antonio Boone (Vinita); great-grandchildren, Heaven James, Trevohn Boone, and Daniel Boyd; special cousins, Carol Carter (James), John Smith, Jr. (Carolyn) and Geraldine Dillard; and other cousins, extended family and friends. Her memory will also be cherished by her loving caregivers, Mrs. Constance Johnson and Ms. Gail Hurdle.
