Clifton Styles, Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, and accomplished maritime professional, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and service.
A proud native of Portsmouth, Clifton was a local star football player at Churchland High School, where he played linebacker for the Churchland Truckers. Known for his tenacity and leadership on the field, he earned numerous accolades, including a spot on the prestigious All-Tidewater Team in his senior year. Following his passion for the sea, Clifton built a distinguished career as a merchant mariner, rising to the rank of chief engineer. For the past four years, he brought his skill and dedication to McAllister Towing as a respected Port Engineer. Clifton will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Styles, Sr.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Styles; and two sons, Daquan Styles and Darell Styles, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. Clifton also leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Angeline High Styles; his sister, Sotara Styles, and her children, Emoni Styles and Robert Riddick; and his brother, Temonious Styles along with his children, Raiquan Thomas and Lylah Styles. In addition, he is survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

I know this was a shock and you are working through all the near-term ‘logistics’ and haven’t processed all the emotions – may your family keep close and keep his memory alive as you tell his tales for years to come. A part of him will continue to live through each of you.

April 17, 2025 at 1:10 pmDaquan and Family,
My heart goes out to you for this great loss at a time that is just too soon. They say God takes the best ones young, but it doesn’t help the pain for those of us left here without our loved one. I believe they are always truly with us. He sounds like a great man and was surely proud of who you have become.

April 19, 2025 at 9:25 amTo the Styles Family,
Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. Cliff was more than a friend—he was an older brother to so many of us. A true mentor, his words always carried wisdom, hope, and strength. His presence lit up every room, and his encouragement lifted countless spirits.
His passing has sent shockwaves around the world, especially among those of us serving here in Japan and those from his beloved Portsmouth, Virginia. Cliff will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, leadership, and loyalty will never be forgotten.
With sympathy and respect,
