Clifton Courtney Bolden was born to Virgil and Marva Bolden on May 19, 1953 in Maysville, Ky. He leaves behind a wife, Joyce Ann Bolden (Johnson) of 34 years, a Father-in-law, Jeff Turner (Arkansas) one son Juansun Bolden (Norfolk). Four grandchildren, Joshua Bolden (Norfolk), Kyle Bolden (Newport News), Ja’ceon Young (Norfolk) and Jayda Young (Norfolk), Two sisters, Wray Jean Bolden (Jones) (Dewayne) Florida and Rhonda Bolden (deceased). One brother, Jerry Bolden (Virginia) and two brothers-in-law, Othello Johnson (Arkansas) and Kelvin Turner (Tennessee).
Clifton graduated from Woodthrow High School in 1971 and joined the United States Navy in 1972 where he proceeded on to have a very successful career. He retired with 20 plus years in 1994 as a Chief Boatswain. He served on both the east and west coast on numerous ships and shore commands.
Upon his retirement from the Navy he went to work at Brinks Incorporated in 1994 where he served as a Messenger, Training Officer and Compliance Officer. He retired from Brinks in 2006 and started a new career at Tidewater Fiber Company as a Commercial Vehicle Operator where he retired completely in 2017.
Among his many accomplishments include Sailor of the Year for Naval Air Station Norfolk, Selected as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1993 but chose to retire instead, Surface Warfare Pin, Craftmaster/Tugmaster a Fourth Degree Black Belt (Master) in Karate. He was a Taekwondo Karate instructor for over twenty years.
Clifton leaves behind three nephews, six nieces, three uncles, three aunts and a host of family and friends.
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
