Clayton Demetrius “Meat” Britt, age 54 of Chesapeake, VA went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 30, 2021. Clayton was born on May 8, 1967 to the parents of Thomas Nathaniel and Katie Ann Britt in Portsmouth, VA.
Clayton was a member at True Vine Pentecostal Holiness Church in Portsmouth, VA. Clayton loved the Lord and lived his life understanding the importance of family, fellowship, selflessness and lending a helping hand. Anyone who knew him adored him and always looked to him for some dap and a good laugh. His smile was bright and genuine.
Clayton enjoyed working in the yard, fishing, dancing, playing with his dog Princeton, helping others and mostly, spending time with family – preferably in person but became an avid FaceTime user. After graduating from Manor High School in Portsmouth, VA and honorably serving our country in the US Army, he worked as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad and later the City of Norfolk in Special Events. He then embraced his entrepreneurial spirit and founded C. Britt Lawn Services.
He will always be remembered as a loving, hands-on father who was a pro at “telling it like it is.” His wife and children were his life. Even in light of health challenges along the years, he remained a total optimist and often offered a joke to lighten everyone’s mood. He was often sought for advice on handling life’s challenges, especially related to raising girls while keeping your sanity.
Clayton was predeceased by his mother, Katie Ann Britt; father, Thomas Nathaniel Britt; and two sisters, Katie Roberts-Britt and Kathia Gray.
Left to cherish Clayton’s memory are: his wife of 31 years, Cherika Poole Britt; son, Dominic “Sammie” Gamble; three daughters, Tatiana Britt, Tia Britt-Sadler (Kaleaf), and Taylor Britt; brother, Thomas “Junie” Britt (Lefern); three grandchildren, Kamaree Gamble, Kamiyah Gamble, and Giovanni Isaiah Sadler. He also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and beloved friends.
