Clarence Pitt affectionally known as “Jr” went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning of January 10, 2022.

Jr. was born to Helen White and Clarence Pitt Sr. on Saturday August 12, 1939, in Portsmouth, Virginia. The oldest of 12 children he enjoyed growing up in Portsmouth. He was educated in the Portsmouth School System. In 1955 at the age of 16 Jr. joined The Merchant Seaman where he enjoyed being a cook and he met his best buddy Mr. Po John. In 1960 he married Shirley Ward and moved to Baltimore where they raised three children. Jr. worked for American Standard where he worked until he was injured. After several years in Baltimore, they moved backed to Portsmouth in 1982

wanting to give their children a better life. April 21, 2002, Jr. gave his life to the Lord at Little Mount Zion Baptist Church in Suffolk by his cousin Randolph Williams. He made sure from that day that he read the bible every morning with his cup of coffee. He continued to have his faith in God until his last days, knowing the Lord would always be there for him and his family.

He was a humble, strong willed and patient man. To know him was to be in the presence of a wise and funny man. With the Grace of God Jr. took care of his family to the utmost. He represented life with respect for every person and sought a life of peace and dignity. He gave his life to Lord and his Family.

Predeceased by his father Clarence Pitt Sr, his mother Helen Pitt, his brothers, Benjamin, Lawrence, James, Richard and Edward Pitt. One sister Dorothy Harrell.

Clarence leaves to cherish his loving memory; 3 Children Tammy Washington, of Newport News Virginia, David Pitt, of Portsmouth, Virginia and Latasha Pickett (Troy) of Chesapeake, Virginia. 8 grandchildren Ashleigh Gray (Mike), David Pitt Jr., Justin Pitt, Janaysia Ward, Taylor Olds (Cameron), Azzur Pickett, Troy Pitt Jr., and Colby Pitt. 4 Great grandchildren Rico Gray, Kayden Gray, Zyaire Gray and Karter Ward. 2 Brothers Landis Pitt and Thomas Pitt. 3 Sisters Pearl Darden, Helen Rocket, and Virginia Joyner (Mike). A special friend Karen Jones, her children, and grandchildren, whom he treated as his own, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    Praying for unexplainable strength for all that knew and loved Mr Jr especially his children and my mom during this time. Blood couldn’t have made this man any closer. It takes a truly special man to stand in and love someone’s children as if they truly were his own. Im forever greatful and thankful to have had Him in our ives. To the only grandfather my children knew we will always love and miss you…

    Praying for the family and knowing that Mr. Jr. was loved by the Jones and Small family. He will be missed. He was just like family to us and always had a pleasant spirit given heart. Thanks for being a part of our family and sharing your life with us. You didn’t like me calling you Mr Jr haha but I get call you that one last time. Love you and God bless the family.     I just found out. Mr. Pitt was very influential to me as a young black man. My sincerest condolences to the family.
