We are gathered today to say farewell to our beloved Christine Elaine Burum, Entering Heaven Gates On September 12th, 2023. Born in Ashville, North Carolina; on December 12th, 1952 to the late Ella Mae Stokley and William “Babe” Burum.
In 1958 the family relocated from North Carolina to New York, settling in Hempstead Long Island. Where Christine grew up with her three brothers ( Benny Stokley, Richard Stokley, and Thomas “Tommy” Riley ) and four sisters ( Rox Anne, Vanessa , Rose Anne, and Edith Riley).
Christine attended Hempstead High School, during her high school years she volunteered as a Nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital. After Graduating in 1971, Christine obtained paid employment at the Mayfair Nursing Home for the elderly. Christine than furthered her skills in the nursing field by getting involved in the insurance and billing segment of the health care industry. After a couple years of working (1974) Christine welcomed her two daughters (Cynthia Denise Matthews and Mamie Mason ).
Later in life as her work interest changed Christine involved herself in retail sales, some bar-tending (smile) and other public service occupations. Christine Welcomed her first grandson (Karlic Matthews) in 1994, Than her Second Grandson (Karl Moore) and her youngest daughter (Alexandra McNeil) in 1995.
Carrying on with her life, Christine relocated to Norfolk, Virginia (2002) where she lived the rest of her years. Upon moving to Virginia Christine became involved in Norfolk School Public Safety before returning back to the Nursing field, and then retiring.
As Christine continued to blossom with her career and children, she then took her life into a spiritual journey as she accepted God in her life, joined the church, and was baptized.
Christine wasn’t always about work, she had a social side also, she was very friendly & sociable, loved sports, shooting pool, bowling, playing bingo and television show “Law & Order”. As she grew with age Christine really enjoyed her family time at one of her nephew’s home (Thomas Riley).
