Christian Aniyah Barnes, age 13 passed away at her home in Suffolk, VA on Saturday, May 29, 2021. She was born on October 6, 2007 in Portsmouth, VA.
Christian touched the lives of so many; our beloved shining, happy girl, the light of our lives and the star of our hearts, leaves us smiling through our tears.
Christian loved Spiderman. She also loved collecting small items to carry around with her during the day in her Spiderman bucket. She will continue to stay with us all through memories that we shared with her. Christian brought so much love and joy in our lives and to those who were around her.
Christian is survived by her parents, Tana and Antuan Barnes; sisters, Chelsea, Dez and Amber; brother, Chaiz; maternal grandparents, Rev. Darl and Charlene Wilburn; paternal grandmother, Celestine Barnes; great grandfather, William Sorrell, Sr. and the late Geraldine Sorrell; Uncles, Antoine Wilburn (Candace), Dominic Wilburn (Edith); aunt, Tracy Cross (Kevin); great aunts, Cynthia Shearin (Ernest), Patrice McLin (Kenny), Barbara Abdrews, Gloria Barnes (Todd), Shirlene Barnes; great uncles, Earl Ricks, Williams Sorrell, Jr. (Lesha), Wade Sorrell (Lisa), James Wilburn (Cynthia), Kevin Wilburn (Kathy) and numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
Surely the sun has become a little dimmer without Christian here to brighten up our lives.

June 3, 2021 at 8:23 amPrayers for you and your family. Christian will truly be missed. I was her 7th grade teacher even though she was virtual, her supportive mother made sure she knew me by bringing her up to the school. Christian would say to me, “Teacher”. Christian was Blessed she had a supportive mother who cared for her unconditionally. If she could speak to her mother one more time, she would say, Thank you mom for being the BEST MOTHER EVER!!! Do Not cry for me for now I am in the care of Jesus, so don’t worry mom, life has just started for me.

June 3, 2021 at 1:40 pmDear Amber, Mr. Barnes and the family,
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time after the passing of your beautiful daughter Christian.
She was so loved, I heard Amber speak of her often when we would sit out on the bench at recess and talk. She loved her dearly! The first graders and I are praying for you to feel God’s arms wrap around you and comfort you during this time. We are doing our best to uphold Amber and support her.
We send our love to each of you.
We are comforted by the promise that Christian is dancing on streets of Gold, fully restored by God. Love, Mrs. Dietz, Mrs. Philpot & Amber’s classmates

June 3, 2021 at 10:58 pmThis morning there is a blankness in my mind,
which is quite unusual for me to find.
The creative process has all but dried up,
but then I thought about my buttercup.
A buttercup comes to mind with a golden glow,
as though kissed by sunlight for a special show.
As children, we placed a buttercup under our chin,
and were amazed by its reflection onto our skin.
It was said that if a bright yellow glow was seen,
you preferred butter on your bread to margarine.
A child’s way of passing a warm summer’s day,
as you sat on the grass letting time slip away.
