Cheila Leilana Hester

On the morning of September 27th 2019 Cheila Leilana Hester passed away in her home from a celebral hemorrhage at the age of 17. Cheila affectionately known as Pokie by her Ioved ones and family. She was born to Shirley Ann Vaughter and Shawn O’Dell Hester on February 3rd 2002 in Norfolk, Virginia. Pokie grew up in Virginia and moved to McDonough, Georgia in 2016 where she attended McDonough High as a senior. Her good grades made her a candidate for scholarships and she anticipated attending Norfolk State University. Pokie was many things, fun loving, creative, smart, and artistic are just a few words to describe her. She was passionate about fashion and cosmetology. She was loved for her playful demeanor, sarcastic and sassy personality and caring heart. She enjoyed her coworkers, hanging out with friends, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Barry Hester and Robert S. Vaughter, Sr. Pokie’s life will be cherished by her mother Shirley A. Vaughter (Curtis D. Vaughter) and father, Shawn O. Hester, siblings, Cristian D. Vaughter, Sky Hester, Quran Jones, Makita Battle, Phoenix Freeman, Iharmoni Malcolm. Grandparents, Ana Courtney, Felipe Plaza, Joan Hester and Annette Vaughter. Aunts and Uncles, Vasti Plaza, Leslie Velez, Joseph Allen Sr., Joana Riddick, Barry Hester, Jr., Tanza Hester, Norris Hester Sr., Kaitlyn Hester, Onika McGlown, Michacl McGlown Sr. and Robert S. Vaughter, Jr. Cousins, Caleb Plaza, Izabela Allen, Joseph Allen Jr., Josiah Allen, Barry Hester, III, Leiandra Hester, Noris Hester Jr., Sophia Hester, Michael McGlown Jr., Jade McGlown and Alanna Vaughter. Pokie’s memory will be forever reminisced by numerous family and friends
that were touched by her infectious smile and radiant soul.

    The first time I encountered Cheila I mispronounced her name…so you can already imagine the look she gave me!!! She had side eyeing down to a science. I will forever cherish the time that I was allowed to teach and speak with her.
