Catherine T. Wright

Sunrise: September 18, 1935

Sunset: June 25, 2025

Catherine T. Wright, age 89, transitioned from glory to glory as she answered the call of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 24, 2025. Born on September 18, 1935, in Halifax, North Carolina, Catherine was the beloved daughter of the late Roosevelt and Mary Elizabeth Thorne. Raised in a home that reverenced God, she accepted Christ early in life and became a member of Apostolic Faith Holiness Church in Suffolk, VA—a commitment that laid the foundation for her life of unwavering faith.

Catherine received her education through the Suffolk Public School System and attended Booker T. Washington High School. She later earned her GED and continued her education at Louise Obici Memorial Nursing School. With a heart of compassion and a calling to serve, Catherine dedicated many years as a Material Supply Specialist for the Defense Logistics Agency at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Even in retirement, her nurturing spirit led her to serve at Hillcrest Nursing Home, caring for the elderly with grace and love.

Catherine lived a life wholly surrendered to her Perfect Love—God (1 John 4:18). A true worshipper, she praised Him through every season, often filling her home with songs of joy and encouragement. Her family remembers her as a beautiful, God-fearing, and loving mother who led by example—showing that praise is a powerful weapon and faith is a daily walk.

A proud and faithful member of Evergreen Apostolic Church, Catherine joyfully served as a Missionary, Sunday School Superintendent, and teacher. Her devotion to the youth was unmatched—organizing Christmas plays and delighting in every church convention. Evergreen held special meaning, as it was built by her late father-in-law, Elder Floyd Wright. Catherine deeply cherished her pastor, Elder Warren, his wife, and the entire church family.

Her interests reflected the joy she carried: family gatherings, vibrant flowers, traveling, and spending treasured summers in Texas. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, and service.

Catherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elvin S. Wright Sr.; her daughter, Sandria Ruth Wright; her sister, Margie Callahan (Teddy); her brother, Melvin Thorne (Carolyn); and brother-in-law, Mody Wigfall.

She leaves to celebrate her life and carry on her legacy: three daughters—Angelia Wright Hill of Suffolk, VA; Dora Lynn Wright of Boston, MA; and Tenita Wright Rodgers (Donnell) of Portsmouth, VA; one son—Elvin S. Wright Jr.; one sister—Bertha Wigfall of Suffolk, VA; one brother—Artis Lee Thorne of Maryland, VA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and her cherished church family.
