Carvin Cortez Edwards

Sunrise: June 28, 1924

Sunset: July 15, 2019

Carvin Cortez Edwards our husband, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle departed this life on Monday, July 15, 2019 at the Consulate Health Care of Norfolk. He was born to the late Lorenzo and Edna Edwards on June 28, 1924 in Norfolk Virginia. He attended school in Henderson NC. After graduating he joined the US Navy for four years. He was a veteran having served in Pearl Harbor in 1941. Carvin retired from the Military and returned to Norfolk Virginia. He married and had two children, Debra and Marvin Edwards (both are now deceased). He remained in Norfolk and landed a job at the Naval Base at the Naval Supply Center. He worked for the government for 43 years until retirement. During his time as a single man his best friend introduced him to Louise Artis, they dated for 13 years then married February 29, 1976. He joined Oakwood Chapel Church Disciples of Christ under the pastoral-ship of Rev. DL Davenport. He became a member of the Male Usher Ministry and served until 2009.

He loved the lord and served diligently in the church not only as an Usher but as a Trustee, and the Church Sexton. He was chosen for many duties and he proved himself to be the best man for the various jobs giving only first-class service. He was also one of the Oaks of Righteousness for our senior honors. He was a mild, meek, easy going dedicated worker and had great respect for everyone he met. He was called “Eddie” on the job and for his great labor, he received many awards. In his family he was known as “Mr. Wonderful” for he was the best husband, brother and uncle to his family. He provided and tended to all our needs and desires. He was always there for us and supported our good accomplishments. He was proud of
us and attended all our celebrations and family gatherings. He was loved by his friends, neighbors and friends’ of his family. He was the greatest gardener in the community, an avid walker and the best “babysitter” ever!!

He leaves us with a great legacy of love and kindness for all. He tried in everyway to show love for his family and friends. He was always the “best” man in all he did for anyone. He trusted God in all things and shared his love. We saw him growing older and weaker as he slowly and gracefully stepped aside from many tasks; but he never gave up on Jesus! He will be missed by his wife of 43years, Mrs. Louise Edwards; his brothers, Mr. William Henry Edwards (Shirley) and Mr. Lee Andrew
Edwards; grandchildren, Melissa Edwards, Madison Edwards, Johnny Harrison, Simeon Harrison and Jordan Edwards; special great-great nephew but more like a grandson, Ryan Brown-Anderson; nephew, Mr. Ray Edwards (Larraine); god-daughter, Ms. Michelle Dawley; family friend, Mrs. Emily Kimbrough; five generations of nieces and nephews,
and a host of friends.
