Carrie Louise Odom Vincent

Carrie Louise Odom Vincent was born to the late Hurley Jackson Odom, Sr. and Mary Virginia Cross Odom on January 9, 1949 in Holland, Virginia. She passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She was the fifth child of thirteen and graduated from Central High School (North Carolina) in 1968. After high school, she attended Portsmouth Community College for a year and worked at Union Camps for year prior to moving to Philadelphia. She also attended a few classes at Community College of Philadelphia.

Carrie had one child, Samuel Lee, who passed away suddenly at 8 months old. Carrie did not have any other children after his passing but was a devoted volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters and received an award for Big Sister of the Year. She was also actively involved with her nieces and nephews as well as other children in the neighborhood and church community. This included trips to the local skating rink, weekend and holiday adventures as well as church computer classes

Carrie accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Southwest Philadelphia after becoming a resident of Pennsylvania.

Carrie worked at Franklin Electric Company for 26 years and in her free time she was an avid reader, lover of fashion and music and helped anyone who needed it. Although Carrie never remarried, she had a longtime friend, Jimmie Edwards, who passed in December 2020. She is also preceded in death by three siblings (Ruby Lee, Ervin and Theophulis)
