Carrie Elizabeth Claud

Sunrise: August 12, 1938

Sunset: March 6, 2025

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, aunt, cousin, and faithful servant of the Lord went home to be with her savior on Thursday evening, March 6, 2025, surrounded by family.  She was 86 years old.

Carrie, affectionately known as “Dot,” was born on August 12, 1938, in Margarettsville, North  Carolina, to Lloyd and Carrie Stewart Parker. She attended Northampton County Schools and was a graduate of Gumberry High School.

Having accepted Christ as her Savior at a very young age, she was a woman of unwavering faith.  She never shied away from sharing her faith with others. Her love for the Lord shone through every aspect of her life. She found great joy and comfort in prayer, strength in scripture, and peace in the promise of eternal life. She was driven to share the Gospel with anyone who crossed her path and was known for her kindness and compassion for others.

She dedicated her life to caring for the sick and helping others as a healthcare professional. She worked at the Suffolk Health Department as a home health aide before later graduating from the Obici School of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After overcoming many obstacles, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Norfolk State University in 1984 and realized her dream of becoming a registered nurse.

She answered God’s calling for her to serve and heal others. She touched the lives of many individuals, offering medical care, words of encouragement, and faith. For her, faith and nursing were intertwined. She often prayed with her patients, even though it was discouraged. One of her fondest memories was of a mission trip that took her to Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, and Zaire  (now the Republic of Congo).

She leaves behind countless family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Isreal Claud. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Parker Jr., and her sisters Rosetta Tillery, Laura Parker,  Lillie Ann Parker, and Lois Valentine.

She is survived by her son, Stanley Claud, and his wife, Delphinia. She is also survived by her daughters Veronica Claud and Valerie Claud-Demby and her husband, Kelvin Demby. She is survived by her brother, Richard Parker, Sr., and his wife, Dora. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters-in-law Myrtle Claud, Celestine Parker, and Pearlie Claud.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Carrie’s passing. I knew her many years ago when she was one of the nurses on call for our staffing company. It seemed Carrie was always ready to respond no matter when I called. She was a true woman of faith sharing her love in a caring way and with good humor. My heart goes out to the many family members and friends she had. My deepest condolences for a life of healing and love.
