Carolyn Nannette Sutton Thompson was born on January 31, 1957 to James and Margaret Henderson Sutton in Portsmouth, Virginia. She slept away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
Carolyn grew up in Portsmouth, Virginia and attended Portsmouth Public Schools. She was a 1977 graduate of I. C. Norcom High School where her studies were focus on Fashion Design. She later attended Tidewater School of Business in Norfolk, Virginia.
September 1977, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She married the love of her life, Jerry Thompson, the same year. All during their forty-two years she served the Lord faithfully. They reared two sons, relocated across the country from VA, MD, NC, MO and then to FL. During these times she was always in touch with her siblings and other family members. She continued to keep in touch with the many wonderful friends she met along the way. She especially enjoyed her two grandchildren and looked forward to the special times they visited during summer vacations.
Carolyn lived a wonderful life as a child and also as an adult. She was a quiet, beautiful, caring person with a gentle smile. She always had encouraging words and a positive attitude to everyone.
Carolyn continued the Sutton’s skills in sales. She enjoyed working in the Hopewell Book Store and retail stores. She was always the top Sales Associate and received many rewards for her service. She was a very creative person in decorating her home and other crafts.
She enjoyed serving as First Lady at First Chronicles Baptist Church where her love served as Pastor. She was excited about bringing special projects to the church and adored the fellowship with the Ladies of the church.
She was predeceased by her parents. Left to cherish her many precious memories are her beloved husband, Jerry L. Thompson; sons, Jeremy Thompson of Killeen, TX and Justin Thompson (Tequila) of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Jaida Thompson and Jayceon Thompson of Killeen, TX; four brothers, Albert Sutton (Georgianna) of Clinton, MD, Alvin Harris (Gloria) of Henderson, NC, Christopher Sutton (Lorie) of Fort Washington, MD and James A. Sutton of Kittrell, NC; two sisters, Lottie S. Bolden of Chesapeake, VA and Erma S. Granger (Rodney) of Portsmouth, VA; aunts, Gertrude Eskridge of Shakers Height, OH and Daisy Henderson of Portsmouth, VA; mother-in-law, Evelyn Bunch; sister-in-law, Patricia Spragley; brother-in-law, James Howard Bunch (Adrienne); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and all her special friends.
