Carolyn Maxine Harris

Carolyn Maxine Harris, aged 77, transitioned into the hand of her heavenly father unexpectedly on March 16, 2025, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk VA, surrounded by her loved ones.  Carolyn was a native of Norfolk, VA. She was born the 8th child to the late Howard W. and M. Eliza Hopkins. Carolyn was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She accepted Christ at an early age, joining Saint Thomas Zion AME, and later New Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her health no longer permitted.

Carolyn was employed at Sears and Roebuck, and Eastern Virginia Medical School in the Police and Public Safety Division, where she retired from, Carolyn often referred to herself as a homebody. She would faithfully call her siblings once or twice a week to check on them. She kept up with other family and friends with calls and cards.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory, of her husband of 58 years, Cordell Harris. Cordell often recalls the first day he saw her and fell in love with her forever. She leaves her two sons, Cordell Harris, Jr. and Carols Harris (Tonya). Granddaughter Nyema Harris, and grandsons, Hakeem, and Andre Harris. Great-granddaughter, Cherrish. Her brothers, Lawrence L. Hopkins, James Hopkins (Brenda), and Raymond Hopkins (Jacqueline) of Chesapeake, VA. One sister, Bettie A. Darden (Maurice) of Durham, NC, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and the loving Harris Family. A special friend Jean Everette. Carolyn was predeceased by siblings, Leon Hopkins Sr., Howard Hopkins Jr. Cynithia Hopkins-Parker, Gene Hopkins, and Marquerite Arlette Hopkins-Jones.
