Sunset: July 21, 2024

Carolyn Ann King Olds (“Miss Ann”), 84, returned to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Chesapeake Health and Rehabilitation Center, Chesapeake, VA.

Carolyn was born on August 2, 1939, in Norfolk, VA to the late Clarence A. King, Jr. and Mary Carter King. She was baptized at a young age receiving Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

She attended Norfolk Public Schools, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk, VA. She was a proud member of the “Fighting Bookers,” Class of 1957. Carolyn received a Bachelor of Arts in History and her Master of Arts in Urban Education from Norfolk State College, now Norfolk State University.

Carolyn had a love of teaching and taught 35+ years in the Norfolk Public Schools System at Jacox, Ruffner, and Norview Jr. High Schools and retired from Granby High School.

Socializing with the Red Hat Society, baking her “world-famous” pound cakes, ole skool “Black Friday” shopping with coupons at midnight with her daughter, niece, Clarissa, and sister-in-law, Vivian Lamb (deceased), and cheering loudly and proudly for her beloved Dallas Cowboys in head-to-toe gear were her life-long passions.

She met the love of her life, Rudolph, in 1960 and was joined in Holy Matrimony on May 10, 1963. This union produced two children: Kevin and Shana.

Carolyn is predeceased by her siblings: Janet B. King, Ronald E. King, Sandra K. Brown, Sheila K. Adams, Herbert L. King, and Clarence A. King, III.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of over 60 years, Rudolph of the home; her beloved children Kevin R. Olds, Chesapeake, VA and Shana O. Eley, Laurel, MD; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings include: Mary J. Todd of San Diego, CA; Leroy F. King of Norfolk, VA; Gladys H. King of Stafford, VA; and Becky V. King of Killeen, TX; sister-in-law, Rev. Gracie R. King of Chesapeake, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
