Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ which strengths me”

Carolyn Daniels, a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, friend, and a woman of God, unexpectedly left Earth and was called to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Carolyn Daniels was born on May 25, 1955, in Portsmouth, VA, to the late Deacon Miles Elliott and Deaconess Margaret Elliott. She was the youngest of five siblings, which included sister Barbara Riddick of Portsmouth, VA., and predeceased by brothers Miles Elliott II and Joseph Elliott and sister Margaret Puckett.

Carolyn graduated from Manor High School in Portsmouth, VA, in 1973. In 1977, Carolyn graduated from Norfolk State University and received her degree in Bachelor of Science in Special Education. Carolyn Daniels relocated to Wadesboro, North Carolina, to pursue her career in teaching. While teaching, Carolyn met her spouse, Mack Daniels, at the school where she was employed. On May 25, 1980, Carolyn Elliott and Mack Daniels tied the knot and became one. They eventually relocated back to Portsmouth, Virginia. They became proud parents of one daughter, Ebony Daniels, and later blessed with one granddaughter, Madisyn Linton. While Carolyn Daniels taught at various schools throughout the City of Portsmouth, she decided to go back to school to further her education. In 2000, Carolyn Daniels received her Master’s of Education from the University of Virginia.  She taught students with special needs or who were mentally challenged for 22 years.

Carolyn enjoyed taking morning walks with neighbors throughout her neighborhood. Drawing was one of her passions, and if you knew her well, you may have seen some of her sketches. Carolyn was talented and creative. She utilized her skills through her artwork for vacation bible school and in her classroom in the school system. Some of Carolyn’s drawings have been displayed in the NFBCT choir room and at her home.  Her favorite foods included crabs, fish, honey biscuits, and ranch dressing as her topping on different types of food dishes. Carolyn also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Madisyn. Together, they created several arts and crafts projects, sang gospel songs, and made up dance moves that usually ended in both of them laughing hilariously.

Carolyn Daniels accepted Christ at an early age and became a member at New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) over 50 years ago. Her father and mother instilled the importance of worshipping and studying God’s word, which she carried throughout her entire life. She passed down the love for God and instilled His word within her daughter and granddaughter. Carolyn Daniels loved the Lord, and she was happy to testify how good God was wherever she went. In May 2022, Carolyn Daniels was chosen and honored as the Senior in the Spotlight at church.

Carolyn was an active, faithful member of Taylorsville Baptist Church. She was a member of the concert choir and taught Sunday School for Women’s class #2, and up until her death, she taught Sunday School on the 2nd Sunday for the collective Sunday School class.

Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, Deacon Miles and Deaconess Margaret Elliott; her sister, Margaret Puckett; and brothers: Joseph Elliott and Deacon Miles Elliott II. Carolyn leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, her husband, Mack Daniels; her daughter, Ebony; granddaughter, Madisyn, aka “Maddi,” her sister; Barbara; sister-in-law, Deaconess Patricia; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Condolences to my co-worker and her family. Your heart may be heavy and only you and the Lord know the weight. Please know you have many who care for you and will try to help you through, but none will soothe you like God. Take comfort in knowing she is with Him. I will always be praying for you.
