Carolyn A. Hardy

Carolyn Ann Smith Hardy was born to Esther Mariah Carr and Robert Smith (deceased) on February 21, 1955 in Norfolk, Virginia. She was the youngest of three children. Carolyn was adopted into the loving home of Norman and Maude Frances (deceased). She was raised in the Christian faith at St. John’s A.M.E Church in Norfolk, Virginia. Carolyn was educated in the Norfolk Public School System. As a young adult, Carolyn worked for Norfolk Public Schools as a Dietitian. She married Herman Joseph Hardy (deceased) in 1985. Carolyn was a warm hearted wonderful person. She opened her heart and
her home to everyone she knew. When Carolyn was around there was sure to be a good time had by everyone. She will be
truly missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn said her last goodbyes on September 18, 2018 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Left to cherish her memory; Cleveland Smith (Shenika) of Suffolk, Virginia, Anthony Smith of Norfolk, Virginia, Gladys McPherson (Carlos) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Sharita Shead (DeAngelio) of Norfolk, Virginia, Jamillah Shead of Houston, Texas, Randy Shead of Norfolk, Virginia, LaQuanda Shead of Norfolk, Virginia; stepson, Frederick Goodman (Tieshia) of Baltimore, Maryland; thirty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Carolyn is survived by two sisters, Iris Spruill of Norfolk, Virginia and Alicia Edmonds (Edward) of Dover, Delaware; brother, Melvin Carr of California; aunt,
Wanza Smith of Norfolk, Virginia and an uncle, James Carr of Norfolk, Virginia.

Carolyn joined Sixth Street Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Byron Joyce where she was a dedicated member.
She was predeceased by sisters, Wilhelmina Hurst and Catherine Carr; and brother, Norman Frances Jr. Carolyn will be remembered and missed by many first cousins; second cousins; nieces; nephews; friends and neighbors. We would like to acknowledge Carolyn’s very special family and friends, Joyce Ann Cross, Justine Hawkins and Margaret Rose Williams who were dedicated to her until the end. A very special thank you to Chesapeake Oncology Nurse, Ms. Gaye and C & S United Nurse, Latoya for your tender care
