Yea thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table for me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. -Psalms 23: 4-6
Carol Denise Ricks, 61, was born April 10,1961. Carol was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina to the late John Ricks and Ernestine Hendricks who preceded her in death. She will also be joining her deceased siblings Dennis and Tina.
On November 16, 2022, Carol went home to be with the Lord, after a long battle of sickness. Over 30 years ago, she met and later married the love of her life, Paul Ricks Sr., who also preceded her in death.
Carol graduated from Norfolk State University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She was employed as an Advocate/Social Worker for the Stop Organization’s Head Start Program at Emily Spong Elementary in Portsmouth, VA.
Carol was a God fearing woman, who accepted Christ in her life at First Baptist Church South Hill in Chesapeake, VA. She was known for being a true sweetheart and played the mother role to any and every person she met. She was known for being there for others and would give the shirt off of her back, to help anyone in need. She also was a certified trash talker when it came to the game of spades. She had a cackling sound that was contagious and caused you to join in with laughter.
Around the holidays, the family looked to her to make her highly requested, infamous sweet potato pies and strawberry cheesecakes. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law and friend.
She leaves to cherish her memories two loving children, Paul and Nikita. Three loving step-children, Paul Jr., Anthony (Fatimah), and the late Paula Howard. Two siblings, Sheila Ricks and Sandra Dawson (Benjamin). Four Brother-in-laws, Ronald Owens, Aubrey Ricks Sr. (Venita), Larry and Maurice Ricks Sr. Sister-in-laws, Angela Ricks and Sarah Newsome (Billie) and a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
