In Loving Memory of Carlton L. Clemons Sr, (Che-Che)
Carlton L. Clemons, Sr. (Che-Che) peacefully departed this life on February 11, 2025, at 79. Born in Norfolk, VA, and raised in South Norfolk, Che-Che lived a life full of joy, laughter, and love. His fun-loving spirit, outgoing nature, and warm smile brought happiness to everyone he met.
A proud graduate of George Washington Carver High School, Che-Che continued his journey at North Carolina A&T State University, where he made lifelong memories both in the classroom and on the baseball field. His time at A&T was a true highlight, filled with camaraderie, competition, and school pride.
Che-Che was a hardworking man, dedicating many years to the shipyard industry at Norshipco and Colonna’s Shipyard, where he earned the respect of his peers through his determination, skill, and work ethic.
Above all, Che-Che’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He leaves behind his beloved children: Tim Blount (Kia Howard), Teena Clemons-Franks (JuJu Franks), Anthony Jackson (Nicole Jackson), Paula Love (Rodney Love), CJ Clemons (Keyara Thompson), and Miranda Munden. As a grandfather, his heart overflowed with love for Eric, Mia, Antonique, Anthony, Jr., Raven, Destini, Ryan, Kameron, Lauren, Zoey, Summer, Jordan, and Zoë, and his joy continued with his great-grandchildren: Eric Jr., Jade, Caleb, Kaiden, and Joshua.
He is survived by his devoted significant other, Mary Sweat, his sister, Brenda S. Clemons, and his cherished niece, Tamesha Clemons, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He is reunited in peace with his parents, Morris and Dorothy Clemons.
Che-Che was a man who knew how to enjoy life. His sense of humor, outgoing nature, and playful spirit were matched only by his compassion, loyalty, and dedication to those he loved. Whether he was sharing stories, watching sports, or simply making everyone laugh, Che-Che was the heart of every gathering.
Che-Che’s life was a celebration of joy, hard work, and love. His memory will live on through the countless hearts he touched.
Rest peacefully, Che-Che. Your laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
