Carlton James Darden, affectionately known by most as “Butch”, departed this life on Friday, April 24, 2020 at his home in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Carlton, son of Janice Arlene Darden and Vernon Lee Darden, was born on February 14, 1974. He was the oldest of three children and the only cherished son.
Carlton was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and was a member of the Woodrow Wilson High School graduating class of 1992. He went on to further his education at Tidewater Community College before completing his trade work in brick masonry. He worked in the field of masonry until his death.
Carlton married his high school sweetheart, Taraja Darden and from that union three children were born. Carlton was preceded in death by a daughter, Devorya S. Darden. He leaves loving memories to his wife; two children, Carlton C. Darden and Nybora R. Darden; two grandchildren, Imoni Swinton and Legend J. Charles.
He is also survived by his parents, Vernon and Janice Darden; two sisters, Lakeshia Caine (Michael) and Shannon Cherry (Almane); two sisters-in law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
God gave us a legend that will forever live in our hearts. Carlton you will be greatly missed.

May 5, 2020 at 8:49 amMy deepest condolences to your family on the passing of your love one. Vernon and Janice even though I could not be there I was with you in spirit. It is not easy to lose a love one but to lose a child it has to be harder. Just ask the Saviour to help you. Ask him to comfort, strengthen and keep you. He will carry you through. Hold on to your faith and to each other. God bless each of you.
