The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm 23:1-6
Carlon Yvonne Howard transitioned from her earthly home to her Heavenly home on November 21, 2024, at the age of 71. She was born July 16, 1953, to the late Albert “Duke” Johnson and Pauline Gray Johnson. She was from Norfolk County, Virginia, where she attended school, also furthering her education by attending Kee Business College to earn her certification in health care.
She was a devoted member of Solid Rock Apostolic Holiness Church in Chesapeake, Virginia, for over thirty-plus years under the leadership of Pastor Irene Moore and the late Bishop Richard J Moore.
Carlon, aka Tidie, was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, cousin, and last but not least, a loving, caring wife for forty-five years in marriage. She resided in Chesapeake for more than forty years. She was and will always be loved by so many. She was a passionate, strong, great cook like no other, which we will miss. A beautiful queen who would do anything for the people she loved if she was able to do so. She was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the glue to our family. Our puzzle piece that is no longer here. We find peace in knowing she is in the arms of the Lord. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. She will forever and always be missed, but she left a piece of her through all twelve of her children. Her legacy will live on.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Calvin Albert Johnson, “Big Man,” and Alvin Paul Johnson, “Big Al,” and sister, Cora Lee Hunter.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband, Dwight Howard, Sr.; eight daughters, Mariann Evette Byrd (Previn, Sr.), Veronica Johnson, Monica Johnson, Carlon Thomas (Alphonso), Dwightette Howard, Warnette Howard, Reba Howard, Crystal Howard; four sons, Derick Johnson, Sr. (Andrea), Carl Johnson (Anea), Dwight Howard, Jr. (Shell), Dwayne Howard (Tanisha); two sisters, Rev. Margaret Pittman, Shelia D. Riddick; one brother, Rev. Larry D. Johnson; thirty-seven grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two grandchildren that she raised she called them (her boys) Jayden Ferrell and Dwight Howard III; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends all of whom she loved and hold near and dear to her heart.

December 3, 2024 at 8:34 pmDwight, I was heartbroken to hear about your loss. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I met Carlon years ago when we both worked for Head Start. She always had a godly spirit and a beautiful smile. We met again later through our church fellowship. We would always hug and spoke like old times. She and Dwight were inseparable. You woul rarely see one without the other. When we met in church she always had an encouraging word for others. I will miss your smile and hugs my dear friend. Be encouraged Dwight and family. May God’s peace be with you.
