Callie Mae Goodwyn was born on June 21, 1945, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Alice Hughes and Leroy Palin, and passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024, just after her 79th birthday. Though small, Callie was a force to be reckoned with—a true firecracker with a personality that left a mark on everyone she met.
Callie was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was predeceased by her mother, Alice Brown; her fathers, Leroy Palin and Jessie Brown; her sisters, Margurtha Bishop and Alice Freeman; her brother ,Lee Grent Ribison; and her granddaughter, LaToya Stanley. She is survived by her loving children: Shelia Kemp (Ernest), Delwanda Diggs (John), Trina Whitehead, Charlene Stanley, and Andre Stanley (Jessica). She also leaves behind her sister, Priscilla Taylor; extended sister, Patricia Swan; brothers, Joe Lee Robinson and Jessie Brown; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, who will continue to celebrate her legacy.
Known for her heart of service, Callie spent many years as a CNA before driving buses for Hampton Roads Transit and Norfolk Public Schools. Wherever she worked, her lively spirit and kindness touched lives. She knew how to bring people together, whether sharing laughter, wisdom, or her signature pineapple upside-down cake.
Family, fun, and freedom were values Callie held close. She cherished time with loved ones and ensured every gathering was filled with laughter and warmth. A woman of unwavering strength and infectious joy, Callie Mae Goodwyn will be remembered as someone who knew how to live fully and love deeply. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the laughter she inspired, and the memories she created.
