Bryant Cox Jr. was born on March 9, 1942 to the late Mary and Bryant Cox Sr. and in Catherine, Alabama. He was the eldest son of ten children and his siblings include Evelyn Burrell, Mary Burrell, Henry Cox, Sam Cox, Betty Cox, Geraldine Cox, Milton Cox, Otis Cox, and Stella Mae Cox. He received his education in the Alabama Public School system.
Bryant met and fell in love with his beloved wife Shelesia (Lisa) Hall in Boston, MA and they were married on September 2, 1989. From their union, they added 3 baby girls to their blended family (Brenda, Brittany, and Erica Cox)
Bryant leaves to mourn his wife Lisa; 7 daughters Kiyana, Kimberly, Markya, Brenda, Brittany, Meesha, and Erica; 2 sons Vida and Brandon, 3 nieces (in his care) Maple, Teaulekia, and Jennifer.
In his prime, Bryant was known for being a great worker and nurturer not only to his own children and grandchildren, but also to the many family members and friends of his children from the community. Everyone loved coming to his home and his pleasant smiling face was always the first to welcome anyone visiting “The Cox Residence”. He took pride in being a good host. Bryant had a great sense of humor, told the best stories, and loved to make everyone laugh, a trait he graciously passed on to his children. His home was the place where all of his children and grandchildren’s friends wanted to hang out. If you came to The Cox Residence you would always have a good time.
One of Bryant’s passions was car mechanics. You could always find him doing something under the hood of his or someone else’s car. Need a tire or oil change, Mr. Cox would do it. Fan belt or brakes need replacing, Mr. Cox would do it all. Many of these things he also graciously passed down to his daughters so they would know how to do some of the basic things needed to properly maintain a vehicle, which he also made sure they all knew how to operate as well. Bryant was always up for drive no matter how far. When his children were younger he’d be quick to pack up and take a ride with the family to his home town of Catherine, Alabama when he had time away from work. Bryant lived a good life we’re loved hard and was loved deeply.
In 2016 Bryant suffered a stroke, complications to which he persevered through for years, and was blessed to continue on in life to welcome more grand and great grandchildren. Eventually these complications lead to heart failure and his untimely passing. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary & Bryant Cox Sr., and his siblings Evelyn, Henry, Sam, Geraldine, and Otis Cox.
