Brenda V. Overton

Brenda, who was lovingly known as, “Pearl”, “Nana”, “B.O.” and “Darling”, was called to eternal rest on November 30, 2024, after living a full life of 82years. She was born on July 21, 1942, in Norfolk, VA to the late Frank Allen and Esther Williams. Brenda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and so much more to many. In her youth, she was raise in the Catholic Church, St. Joseph, as well as educated in the Catholic School. Brenda retires from Chesapeake Public Schools after dedicating 22 years as a Custodian. She was a faithful and active member of New Hope Baptist Church and served on various ministries such as: Women’s Usher Board, Missionary Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, Deaconess Board and even assisted in teaching young children during Vacation Bible School. She was affectionately known for her caring, loving and compassionate spirit. Not only did she impact the lives of everyone she met, but she also faithfully donated too many charities like March of Dimes, St. Jude and Boys ranch. After you met her, she made sure you knew you were now family and could affectionately call her “Nana” or “Mom.” Brenda is preceded in death by her daughter, Leshia G. Hawkins; her grandsons: Mathias T. Hawkins and Akeishe Hawkins; her granddaughter, Janitta; her sister, Gail Williams; and brother, Robert Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory through her husband of 59 years, Mathias; her daughters, Anita Hawkins, Yolanda (Ernie) Stover and Arlethia Overton; two extended sons, Gilbert Elliott and Neil Eason, Sr.; grandchildren: Anitria, Shalikka, Gilbert, Mario, Charleeta, Melvin, Charlie, Jr., Marquez, Louis, Chantz, Shalanda, Nelita, and Neil, Jr.; as well as many great grandchildren and extended loved ones. Brenda, you fought a good fight. Now your work is complete. Time to meet your king.

    Sending my love and prayers to the Overton family. From the first time Nelita introduced me to Nana, she treated me as if I was one of her own grandchildren every time she saw me. She was such a kind and loving woman. Rest on, Nana!
