Brenda L. Morris

Sunrise: September 11, 1953

Sunset: April 25, 2022

On Monday April 25 while it was peaceful and quiet, God whispered into Brenda L. Morris ear, it is time to come home, my daughter.  Therefore, He put a smile on her face, kissed her cheek, gently wrapped her in His arms, and carried her to her heavenly home.

Brenda was educated in Norfolk Public Schools, graduated from Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1971, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in History from Norfolk State University in 1995.

Brenda taught at St. Mary’ Academy in Norfolk, VA and Star of the Sea Catholic School in Virginia Beach for a total of over thirty years.

Her father and mother, Melvin and Geraldine James, preceded her in death. Brenda was the wife of LaMar S. Morris for 44 years.

Brenda was an active member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. Alpha Chi Chapter for 19 years, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Upsilon Omicron Chapter for 16 years, Concerned Citizens of Booker T. Washington High School, and a member of the Praise Dance Team at New Calvary Baptist Church.  Her interest and hobbies were collecting dolls (especially the Obamas) and tending to her flowers.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband 44 years, LaMar; a daughter, Cherwana Harris (Julius D.) of Woodbridge, VA; three sisters: Sarelda James-Green of Chesapeake, VA, Shelia Johnson (Joe) of Virginia Beach, VA,  and Adriane B. James of Norfolk, VA; one brother, Keith James of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren: Reagan and Brayden Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers you can donate to the American Cancer Society.

Brenda was a light and I was blessed to teach, to serve, and to dance beside this beautiful soul. Her, my daughter, and mother shared the same Birthday Month and she always made sure my Babygirl felt special. She loved teaching and sharing and “staying on task!” I have so many fond memories of her strength that I am so hurt to have lost her in this way. God knew she needed rest and I am happy to know she is no longer suffering and may now rest. But I can’t say that I won’t miss everything about her spirit. We really wanted to dance together just one more time but I guess I will dance that for you my Love. Hugs prayers and Love to her Family, Friends and Sorors who loved her so. She blessed my Life and I want you to know that she was loved and admired deeply. From Golden Ages Praise Dance Ministry GAPT we Love you!

I have known Brenda for more than 60 years. We attended the same faith community during her adolescent years. I knew all her brothers and sisters as the James family. She was one of those persons you could say was born a leader and accepted the calling to serve. She lead the Booker T. Class of 71 along with her husband LaMar for over a decade in what was unforgettable experiences that we could all treasure. Her energy was ever evolving even when her health was a challenge. She embraced the fruit of the spirit. A Black woman who never strayed away from her roots. We all loved her but God loved her more and my wife Irene and believe he took her home to rest and to issue her reward for her service to him.

I am sorry for your loss. Remember that Brenda is with the Lord now, and she no longer in pain. If it’s any consolation one of my favorite Bible verse to when comfort is the 23rd Psalms.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me besides the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name sake.
Ye, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou are with me; thy rod and staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Lamar, I hope that these words will comfort you and your family.
