“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – II Timothy 4:7
Brenda M. Sheppard, cherished minister, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in Virginia Beach, VA. She was 72 years old.
Born on December 6, 1952, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Bishop James Sheppard and Annie Ruth Sheppard, Brenda lived a life rooted in faith, grace, and service. A woman of unwavering belief and spiritual wisdom, she was a beacon of light to all who knew her. Whether through a quiet prayer, an encouraging word, or a comforting hug, Brenda offered herself freely as a source of strength and guidance to many. Her love for God wasn’t just spoken-it was lived, reflected in her every act of kindness and compassion. Brenda’s greatest pride was her family. She leaves behind two loving daughters, Sherida Sheppard and Chela Mckenzie, who carry forward her legacy of love and resilience. She was a devoted grandmother to Kaila Parker and Jaylan McKenzie, showering them with affection, wisdom, and spiritual grounding that will forever shape their lives.
She is also survived by her beloved siblings Angel Harding, Steven Sheppard and Ashby DeLeon Lewis who shared in her laughter, her stories, and her unshakable bond of family. Numerous nieces, nephews, and a vast circle of extended family and friends will miss her presence deeply her warm smile, her spiritual advice, and her unfailing ability to make anyone feel like they mattered.
One of the most memorable ways Brenda expressed her love was through food. Her kitchen was a sacred place where recipes became ministry. Whether she was preparing a big Sunday dinner or a plate just for you, Brenda poured her heart into every dish. Her cooking brought people together, healed broken spirits, and created memories that will live on around every table she graced.
Brenda’s life was a testament to faith and love in action. Though she has departed this physical world, her spirit continues to surround us in every prayer whispered, every gospel song sung, every dish lovingly prepared, and every heart she ever touched.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms… I am going there to prepare a place for you.” John 14:1-3
