Brenda Gail Burke

Brenda G. Burke entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

She was born on April 22, 1953 to the late Earl A. Spellman Sr. and Ida Alberta Spellman Gallop.

She attended and graduated from Great Bridge High School, Chesapeake, Virginia. She was on the track team. She loved to play softball, and she played on the winningest team in the TidewaterArea. She entered the nickname “Bullet Burke” because of her speed in running the bases.

Brenda was a member of Covenant Fellowship Church under the leadership of Bishop Kevin R. White. She was a member of the 1st Sunday Choir, and she was often called the “Tramaine Hawkins” of Chesapeake.

Brenda worked for the Division of Motor Vehicles (1973-2003). She retired with 30 years of service. After her retirement, she worked for Chesapeake Sheriff’s Department before retiring for good.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jefferson L. Burke, Jr. (Shunita); Mother, Ida Alberta Gallop; Brother, Earl A. Spellman Jr. (Dannetta); sister, Valencia Spellman; Nieces, Shayla R. Clemons and Latoya Webb (Jalo);Nephew, Lamar Spellman; Great Nephews, Brandon Clemons, Brayden Clemons, Jayden Webb and Jayce Webb; Great Niece, Jaylee Webb; Aunt Floria Powell; three step sisters, Marcia Gallop, Thomasine Hill, Winifred Gallop; Step brother, Willie Gallop, Jr. (Sophronia); a host of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Cynthia A. Clemons and ValJeanSpellman; Stepfather, Willie E. Gallop Sr.

A special thank you to her family and friends that were instrumental in caring for her. Min. Barbara Simons, Diann Branch, Essie Demory and Betty Harper your assistance will forever be treasured in our hearts.
