Our beloved sister Blanche Simpson Moore, affectionately known as “Mank,” departed this life to be with her Lord on February 25, 2024. She was born in Hertford, North Carolina, on November 27, 1932, to the late James and Josephine Simpson.
Blanche grew up in Hertford and attended Hertford High School She then moved to New York City to live with her Uncle Norman and his wife. In later years, she moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where she met and married Robert Seward. To that union were born two children, daughter Shirley and son Robert Jr.
Later, Blanche married Haymon Moore and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she worked twenty-five years for the Milwaukee County Hospital. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Bradford Memorial Church where she served on the trustee board, as president of the usher board and in children’s ministry. Blanche was the type of person who would help anyone who needed it. After retiring from her job in Milwaukee, she moved back to Virginia to be with her sisters and brothers. She became a member of Prayer and Action Outreach Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Spence. She loved her church and was a faithful member. Blanche loved to laugh and have fun. Her hobby was crocheting.
Blanche was preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley Seward; brothers, James and Willie Simpson; sisters, Eva Holley, Dorothy Brooks, Helen McCrimon; Catherine Simpson and Joella Hunter. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Robert Seward, Jr., grandsons Vernon Seward (Willa) and Brian Seward, Jermain Seward and Robert Seward; fifteen great grandchildren and nine great, great grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur Simpson (Lynn) of Hertford, NC, Vernon Simpson (Annie Clair) of Atlanta, GA, Nathan Simpson (Lucy) of Norfolk, VA, and Charles Simpson (Alga) of Hertford, NC; sisters, Gladys Brooks (Nathaniel) of Norfolk, VA, Nellie Banks of New York, NY, Doris Jean Jones of Hertford, NC, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and her special friend Mom Miller.
Blanche was loved and appreciated by all who knew her. More than anything, she was loved by God. She may no longer be with us in body, but she will always be with us in spirit for her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
