Beverly Ingram

Beverly was born on July 6, 1950 in Manhattan, NY.  She was affectionately known by her family as Bee, BeeBum and Aunt Bee. She grew up in the Farragut Houses in Brooklyn, NY, and later Wallabout Houses (The Navy Buildings) also in Brooklyn.  She attended P.S. 287, Montauk Junior High School and F.D.R. High School. After marrying, she and her husband, C.J. moved to Staten Island in 1970, where they raised their children. From a young age, children held a special place in her heart which led to her career in childcare; first at the Berry Houses Community Center followed by Staten Island Mental Health Head Start.  She moved to Norfolk, VA in 1999 to be with her kids and granddaughter, Shatavia.  She began Ms. Bee’s Place in her home until 2006.  She retired from ITT Technical School as a Library Assistant in 2016.

The kids in the family and neighborhood grew up enjoying sleepovers and parties at her house. She loved having card parties with her friends, traveling, dancing, and spending time with her family.  She often said that Jehovah had given her everything she wanted by allowing her to be a wife, a mother, and a teacher.

Moving to Virginia to be closer to her kids and granddaughter, Shatavia changed her life.  This is where she began to take seriously what her faithful mother had taught her about Jehovah with the help of Sallie Stewart, who patiently taught her the Bible. Beverly was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 25, 2003.

She often referred to herself as a “Christian in training,” and was looking forward to perfecting her Christian qualities when the earth becomes a paradise again. She did not make her health problems the focus of her life.  Instead, she focused on her ministry and increased the amount of time that she spent teaching about Jehovah.  She motivated others to do the same.  Her hope in the resurrection was strong and from the time they were young, she taught her girls that they will see her again if she ever fell asleep in death.

Even while sick, she loved serving others.  She went out of her way to make others feel welcomed at the Kingdom Hall, especially if they were there for the first time.  She was known for her mouthwatering salmon patties and delicious omelets.  Beverly loved to read, learn, and share her knowledge with others.  She was our “Google” before it existed.

She was predeceased in death by her father, Wendell Beverly King; brother, Michael King and nephew, Rashaad King.

She is survived by her mother, Dilcy King; sisters, Norma King-Chavers (Darrell) and Susan King; daughters Dilcy Foreman (Micah, Sr.); Theresa Ingram Olugbile (OB), her special daughter, Carol Jones (Calvin); Grandchildren, Shatavia Ingram, Terrell Heath, Jr., Terrain Heath, Miciah Foreman, Marlai Olugbile; Great Grandchildren, Kaleb Blackmore and Jynesis Ricks; Nieces and nephews, Mia King Waldron (Chris); Damon King (Erica), Michael King (Taura); Tracy King (Lisa); Pamela Walker (Damon), Kamaal King and Erin King.

She will be dearly missed by the Gordon, King, Ingram, Dickerson, Heath and Foreman families; her beloved Bay Congregation as well as many others that knew her for her big smile, kindness and willingness to go out of her way for others.
