Sunrise: August 17, 1955

Sunset: October 7, 2024

Beverly Camille Burnham Settles was born on August 17, 1955, in Portsmouth, VA, to Curtis Lee & Barbara Jean Burnham (Sheppard). Beverly lived her early years in Portsmouth but moved to Norfolk as a child and lived in the city for most of her life. She attended Norfolk Public Schools, where she became known as Big B during her teenage years. Big B graduated from Lake Taylor High in 1974. After high school, Beverly was employed in different places. In the early 1980s, she decided to join her mother as a school bus driver, working for Laidlaw/Norfolk Public Schools. After several years with NPS, she was blessed to move on as a bus driver for Hampton Roads Transit. In 2011, Bev joined the team at Grand Furniture as Floor Support, being responsible for cleaning and other activities around the building. She remained at Grand until her health would no longer allow her to work. While at work and everywhere she went, Bev shared the word of God and encouraged others to live a life that is pleasing to God.

On February 5, 1992, Beverly married Timothy James Settles, who preceded her in death in December 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Cecelia Denise Burnham & Terry Anderson, and her aunt, Shirley Reid.

Beverly was the proud mother of James F. Burnham (Keishara McCletery) and Ebony L. Burnham, the super proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Alexis, Nykeeyah Semaj Burnham, and Keyeona Trayvon, and Quavon Milteer; three great grands, King and Jewel Wescott and Kamari Felton. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and siblings, just hanging out and having a good time.

Beverly joined New Hope CCC and became a faithful and loving member. She served as an usher (Head Usher), danced with the Ebony’s Angels Praise Team, drove the church van, helped with the Nurse’s aides, and was always assisting in the kitchen and with various programs. Bev also served on the Berkley Reunion Committee for 30 years. She really enjoyed being a part of assisting with these activities.

Bev leaves to mourn her children, grandchildren, sisters, Sandra L. Roby, Stephanie Ezekiel (Jeffrey), June Wilder; brother, Anthony Burnham; one aunt Myrna Canty; several cousins, nieces, nephews, special friend, Donald Foreman; and a host of other friends.

Memorial Service: Saturday, October 19, 2024 11:00 AM New Hope Congregational Christian Church 145 East Liberty Street Norfolk, Virginia
