On October 25, 2024, the sun set on the life of the one and only Beverly Ann Davis Hayes, who went on to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, in eternal rest. Beverly was born on April 21,1956, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was the youngest daughter of the late Annie Bell Crawford Davis and Alvin Eugene Davis, both of Durham, North Carolina. Until the end, Beverly maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation, and love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her life, full of wonderful and varied experiences.
Beverly’s life can best be encapsulated by four words: Family, Friends, Food, and Fun.
Beverly grew up in the historic neighborhood of Truxton on Hull Street. She graduated from Craddock High School in 1973 at the age of 17 and went on to continue her education and work at Maryview Hospital and then Portsmouth Naval Hospital. In March of 1975, she married Gregory C. Hayes, and together, they built a family. They raised two children, LaVar (1977) and Vonda (1982). Beverly and Gregory maintained a loving and supportive marriage up until Greg’s passing in 2001. She was a landlord, newspaper carrier, and caregiver. Beverly loved family gatherings, especially during the holidays and birthdays. Beverly never met a stranger and always saw the good in everyone she met. For those who knew and loved her, Beverly was a friend in times of need and her laughter was infectious. She was known as the life of any gathering, always dressed to impress, ready to enjoy a good meal, especially crab legs, and a serious game of spades.
Beverly is predeceased by her husband Gregory C. Hayes and brothers Kenneth Davis and Curtis Davis. She leaves to cherish her legacy her children, Gregory LaVar Hayes (Zaneta), Vonda Wooden (Damon), and granddaughter, Madison Wooden-Jones (Azjura), whom she adored. She is also survived by one brother, Tony Davis (Gracie), two sisters Wilhelmenia Delk and Cynthia Muldrow, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
While her earthly journey has come to an end, Beverly Ann Davis Hayes leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege to know her. Rest in peace, Beverly—you will forever be missed and remembered with love.
