Betty J. Fagan, a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and favorite aunt to all was born on December 11, 1952 to Fannie Moore and Hayward Everette. She was born in Norfolk Community Hospital and remained a Norfolk native.
Betty attended Norfolk public schools and graduated from Lake Taylor Senior High. After graduating she began a career of community service with the City of Norfolk. She worked in the public school system for 5 years. She retired from Norfolk Parks and Recreation after over 20 years of service, which included coordinating the Nighthawk program.
Betty enjoyed being in the presence of her church family and Pastor. She began her Christian journey in the family church, St. Thomas AME Zion where she served faithfully on the Willing Workers Ministry, the choir, and the usher board. She later transferred her membership to Bethany Baptist Church where she dedicated her life to pleasing God and absorbing the Word as often as she could. At Bethany, she was a faithful member of the Bethany Soldiers basketball team, she also coached softball, volleyball, and basketball. She was very active in the community with the children, she was a community mother to all and opened her door to anyone in need.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a daughter, Annette Fagan of Chesapeake; a son, Sam Fagan of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Quentin Holmes of Suffolk and Samiyah Fagan of Chesapeake; a sister, Cynthia Wilson (Dexter) of Chesapeake; four nieces, Tanacia (Candy) McLean, Tonya McLean-Bradley (Jamal), Tramellia Fagan, Tanika Fagan-Green (Lionel); one nephew, Jermel McLean (Alisha); four special daughters, Pamela Martin Brown, Janiell Youngblood, Angela Copeland, Ahsha Clark; two special sons, Clinton DeLoatch, Barry Brown Sr.; her only living aunt Cathy Everett of New York, a special devoted & loving caregiver Brittany Smith with “Your Family is our Family” Home Healthcare; a special nurse/great-niece Shemaria Francis, and a host of extended grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Betty lived a life of service devoted to her community and will be missed by many.

September 27, 2024 at 2:57 pmBetty, Ma Betty, Grandma Betty, Miss Betty, however you called her she would answer. She was a mother figure, motivator and friend to so many people. I’m honored to have had the pleasure of being a family friend for decades. Ma Betty was SOLID and She stood on business! She didn’t play about the people she loved. I will most definitely miss her quick wit, smile and laughter but the memories and stories she told will live forever in our hearts. Nette and Sam and the grands will be just fine. You left a wonderful blueprint to follow. Sleep peacefully my Lady~We love you- Stalgia and Amir.
