The Lord called our beloved Betty Turner to her eternal rest on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia with her loving family present. Betty was born November 21, 1950, to the late Thurman and Mattie Davis in Baltimore, Maryland.
Betty was baptized at an early age at the Community Baptist Church in Southampton, New York. Prior to moving to Suffolk, Virginia, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton New York where she served in the Deaconess Ministry. After moving to Suffolk, Virginia she joined St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church. She sought to continue to grow in knowledge of the Word and was a faithful attendee in Sunday School and Bible Class. After prayerful consideration, Betty joined Mount Lebanon Baptist Church known as The Mount. There she attended classes and worshipped on a weekly basis. As her health began to decline, she was thankful for the opportunity to worship virtually.
Betty received her elementary education in the small yet nurturing environment of the one room Wainscott School. Since Wainscott only had an elementary school, she attended the Easthampton School. After her family moved to Bridgehampton, she graduated from Bridgehampton High School. It was here she met her future husband Carlyle Turner. Carl and Betty were married June 27th, 1970.
They were the devoted parents of four children and worked together to provide a stable and loving home where their children could thrive and grow.
Betty was the child of hard-working parents; she inherited their strong work ethic. She worked diligently to expand her employment portfolio and excelled at every job she undertook. To know Betty, you knew her family. Betty was never more animated than when she was talking about her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Meema.” Her smile would light up a room when she shared pictures, accomplishments or just mentioned their name. She and Carl were always incredibly supportive of their children’s, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s endeavors: sharing in their academic milestones; traveling miles for a basketball game; a soccer tournament or class play/recital. She also enjoyed sharing their activities on Facebook.
She will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family. She was the consummate hostess who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Betty was an excellent cook and her sweet potato pies were unparalleled. But don’t try to copy her recipe because you would be missing the most important ingredient, the love she poured into every dish she prepared.
Betty fought her medical challenges valiantly bolstered by her faith, fortitude, and the loving care of her primary care giver, her husband of fifty-one years.
Predeceased by her parents and her brother Thomas Wilks, she leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Elder Carlyle Turner; her daughter Angela Davis (Tammy); three sons Wade, Carlyle Dwayne (Trina) and Terrel; her sister Jeanette Steward; one Uncle Winzola Davis; two sisters -in- law Vanessa Wilks and Carolyn Whitehurst; ten grandchildren; Shantel, Kyri, Briana, Raven, Sierra, Darien, Brandon, Korey, Davis and Tulsi; four great- grandchildren; Zoe, Jameson, London, and Rocco;. nieces, nephews, cousins; god daughter Shalyn Pritchard and a host of friends

March 3, 2022 at 1:18 pmSending heartfelt sympathy to the family of my dearest friend, Betty D. Turner.
Words cannot express the sorrow and void during the passing of your loved one and my dear friend Betty.
Our friendship was orchestrated by God and valued by both of us. I will miss my best Bud, as we called each other, and our monthly lunches at DeCoys and daily lunches the years we worked together.
Carl, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren It is so reassuring to know that even though our hearts are twisted in pain, God is with us. He promised never to leave you nor forsake you during this difficult season. Weeping may endure for a night but joy will come in the morning. It is well with Her Soul ! Betty, you fought a good fight. Faith and believing God’s Word was your weapon. You were the Wind beneath your family wings, you taught them how to soar. Best Bud, Gail G. Harrison
