On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, Betsy Ellisa Thomas passed away in the presence of loved ones and into the realm of everlasting peace at the age of 61. Betsy was born on September 9, 1960, in Norfolk, VA, to Stanley Thomas Sr. and Bessie Thomas. Betsy’s father, Stanley Thomas Sr., and her nephew Demetric L. Coleman predeceased in her death.
Betsy was a proud graduate of Indian River High School, a graduate from Tidewater Community College with an AAS in Management, and a BS from Old Dominion University in Training and Development. She worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia for 30 years and retired from Old Dominion University. She also worked part-time at Tidewater Motor for over 15 years and gained additional family workers and friends.
She loves the Lord and believes in His word that she will one day meet Him face to face. She has been a member of Calvary Revival Church since 1995, where she learned to become a woman of great faith.
Betsy was always a joy to be around. She always kept family and friends smiling and laughing, whether she was mocking someone, being dramatic, telling stories about herself, or dancing to jazz. Betsy was very hard working and inspiring. Even though she had been sick for a long time, she was not sickly. Instead, she fought a good fight.
Betsy’s unstoppable entrepreneurial spirit led her to start two businesses, Thomas Entertainment Tours and a home staging company, Designer Advantage. Betsy was known for enjoying gospel and smooth jazz music, smooth jazz plays, pro-NFL games, and inspiring religious plays. People traveled with her to see the many sites her travel business offered in different countries.
Betsy’s love for her family was to get them on Family Feud, and the good news was they had interviewed for two auditions.
Betsy leaves to cherish her mother, Bessie Thomas, sister Etta Thomas Coleman, brother Stanley Thomas Jr. (Pearl), longtime friend Ronnie Lomax, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephew, cousins, extended family Tiffany and Kenneth Parker and her godchildren Asa and Naomi Parker.
