Bertha Mae “Menia” Hardy was born on June 3, 1947 in Norfolk County, Virginia to Lemmon and Bertha Lucas. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School. She retired from the City of Chesapeake. She was a faithful member of Grace Fellowship Church. Her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident in the way she loved and cared for others. Menia had a fun-loving and caring spirit. She was such a people person with her smile and wittiness. Everybody loved them some “Menia” and her house was the place to be to eat and have fun.
She was known for catching crabs on Bainbridge. Menia was the “Canned Lady” in the neighborhood. She enjoyed her family and living life to its fullness. Menia touched the lives of so many people during her life, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, her sister and her son. She leaves to cherish her memory; her son, Kevin Lucas (Sabrina); daughters, Yolanda and Stacy Lucas; one daughter-in-law, Alice Lucas; four sisters; Sylvia White, Mildred Lucas, Patsy Edison and Sheila White (Derek); two brothers: Alfred and Thomas Lucas; five grandchildren; Kimberly, O’Quint, Torron, Charleston and Ashley; eight great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
